If you won the lottery and had a $100K income for life, would you work full time?
I recently went through an extended period of unemployment and was really bored. I had plenty of money with my unemployment insurance, severance pay and savings, but I had nothing to do all day. I tried to find things to do but struggled because my wife and friends were all at work.

If I won the lottery and had enough money to be unemployed for life, I wonder if I would stop working. I may still be bored. But maybe I would look at life differently and find activities to do.

You have won an income of $100K a year after taxes, do you quit your job?

you could always do volunteer work-a hospital, meals on wheels, a nursing home, a animal shelter, lots of things can be done.

i would go buy an RV an tour the country for as long as it took, then find the place i liked the most and live off the money ,not working.i would also change my name so that the relatives cant find me to leech off of.

Knowing me, I'd more then likely get a job at Blockbuster or something like that so that I'd have something to do with my time. I probably wouldn't travel though. I've traveled around a little bit during my time in the Air Force, and found that sight seeing and all that doesn't do anything for me.

After taxes that's about 52k. So better not tell the boss about his wife's hideous wart just yet.

I would continue working, but not necessarily in the same job. That kind of money could mean setting myself up in my dream job. You need to fill your life with some kind of meaning. Sitting around bored seems like moving down peg or two and not improving your life. Even if fulltime work wasn't an option, working for charity might be.

Whatever I would do, I would look for something to fill that time with.

yes

I'd quit my job so fast that their head would spin. I work only to pay for my lifestyle. $100k a year after taxes is more than enough to support a middle-class lifestyle, and I'd be elated to know that my time is now really MINE to utilize how I choose. Someone guarantee me $100k a year for the rest of my life and see if I don't quit my job TODAY.

Lucky you. I work because I have to. If I have money and rolling with it. No I would not work paid work but maybe do some volunteer work on my own leisurely time and of course if I get bored on that, then I might, just might work one day a week work that I chose and I like and no starting early. PS. only in my dream. If you have really lots of money..hey can I borrow some??? lol

Oh heaven's no....... I would get bored too... I am such a people person... an as of right now... my job is my social life... (I moved away from my hometown) So regardless of money won.... I would still work... I think its good for the body & mind......

arman_armanov
honestyl, I have no income right now but don't want to get a job anyway...

If that amount was guaranteed I would possibly work for a year or two and live off that and invest my first year or two amount of salary... then after that I think I would not work anymore! I would have the freedom to travel and learn things, and enough that my spouse can do the same. That makes the days different, as opposed to doing the same ole same ole and just not having anything to do, like your case kinda was. So--- I think I just wouldn't have a job that tied me down to a schedule that I couldn't up and leave if I wanted. Maybe I'd try to find some type of seasonal fun job if I really became bored--- but personally I am sure I could handle it! :o) I would do a lot of investing though!
