1. I'd take the lump-sum up-front option, which would approximately halve the amount to, say, $500,000.
2. I'd pay the tax on $500,000.
3. I'd invest the after-tax balance in conservative, fixed-income securities and deposit those securities in my retirement fund.
4. I'd reinvest in my retirement fund the annual after-tax income on those investments.
5. Eventually, I'd live on the investments in my retirement fund, including theretofore-received and reinvested income and the corpus of the fund based on actuarial projections calculated to make sure the fund outlived me. |
