Store it in a Money Market account for 6 months and NOT touch it!! Get use to the idea of it being there, but don't spend it yet.
For those 6 months, really think about what you really want to do...make the Grand Plan! (By yourself, if possible!)

well first, i would sleep with it, then the next morning put it in my account, quit my job, build a massive house on a big yard, put some away for my kids, pay my bills and everything bill in advance, and then i dunno have to see what come up from there : ) |

I have thought about this for a long time. In fact, a few years ago the jackpot was quite high and I had a premonition I was winning it (like no one else ever did either).
Well, I had my eye on this track of land just south of here 10,000 acres of pine prairie, oak scrub, and lakes. I designed a house at the top of a gentle hill, with a nice moat around it-the width of a good cast-for easy fishing and I would raise gourmet catfish. My wife would have her own Pool Hall (she is a past state champion), and we'd have all the home basics.
The moat would be connected to one of the big lakes and on the far side of the lake I'd set up a fish camp and put my brother in charge there.
The long drive from my home to the public road would wind through the woods so no trip would be a hurry. At the entrance, I would build a few houses and let some LE folks move in for free. Game wardens and sherrif's deputys to keep an eye on the place and give them a break.
I'd have guest homes for my sisters and stables for my wife's horses; or is it the other way around? :)
So I would retire, live in peace with my remaining family close by , protected and secure. No wild times, just a quiet exit from the rat race.
Of course, right now I live in the middle of a state park, for free. We raised two boys here and have a great life as a Park Manager so in some ways, I have won already. Add to that, I survived a flesh-eating bacteria infection in 2001, where I had almost "died" (heat attack, stroke and last rites) and then came back (though minus a leg).

Here's how it works:
If you take the lump sum option you get about 1/2, or 180 million.
Then you have to pay 39.5% federal tax & whatever state & local income taxes you have. In Bucks County, PA that would be another 5% state & local. That leaves you about 100 million.
A very nice amount but not as wowing as $360 million.

Well i definetly wouldnt just quit my job. Not at first. Invest, i would invest it in different things. Education, and health facilities. I would open my own business, yes buy a home with land so i will never owe anyone for it. Trust funds for my son and 3 brothers. Put 100 million in a savings acct that draws intrest. But most important i would have fun, not to much but enough make sure that parents are good to go. And help as many people as possible to me it would be a blessing so i would have to spread the love. |
