Unfortuantely not.
You will not collect social security until you are in your late 60's. Which means 300k has to last 40+ years. So you are looking at 300k/40+ years, which is rouhgly 7.5k a year. Even if you put the full amount in a CD or a T-bill, the net interest barely covers inflation and increased living cost.
Gratz on being financially secure, however you would at least need a part-time job, or some source of additional revenue, to afford any lifestyle above the poverty level.

NO that wouldn't last very long at your age. Invest and keep going.

even if i can, i won't...

You can retire if you're 45 and have 45 million in you bank account. A lot of things can still happen, with recession around and inflation up you will surely have no security for your money especially if its only 300 thousand. The world is a place for endless opportunities and you're still young. Why spend it on early retirement.

Or maybe you're just too lazy to break a leg and has decided to be contented with that amount. Mind you, at your young age... you can spend it all of in one day!

bdancer222
Only if you don't plan to live too many years longer or you can manage to survive on the interest only.

If you move to the hills of west virginia and buy a cabin, cut your own wood for heat, live on beans & deer meat, wash your clothes in the river, and don't use things like telephone, or electricity, then yes you probably could.
If you want things like hot water, a car, cable tv, new clothes once in a while, then no.

David M
No, depending on your lifestyle and what other assets you may have (like a paid off home) you probably need 10 times that amount. Time to get to work.

Duh... you're not even close to financial retirement.

I don't think you should unless you have your own house, you have all you need, and you don't plan spending on extra things.

Also you must consider if you want kids, if you have kids, college payment, etc.

Also remember health may drain your money in things such as surgery, unexpected diseases and abnormalities like cancer.

Peggah
Nope. 300K wouldn't last for a life time. Find work, invest, or put up a business. You'll never know what's gonna happen in the future.

Wow, what a GREAT start!
First, you should be very proud of yourself for doing this.

Second, make an appointment with a financial advisor, they can project for you what you can do with your savings and how long it would last you if you were to retire today.

It sounds like you're a go-getter, and you may not be truly happy retiring at 25... But you've certainly made things easier for yourself and your future.

Go for $1 million! :o)
