Firstly, calm down... Stress makes it a lot worse!!

GO to your local CAB and take all the letters and statements you can find, they will help you get the payments lowered and things will improve by HUGE amounts!!
Like the answer above, dont go to any of these "Debt" companies, it's a con cos the CAB do it all for free.....

The very worst thing that can happen is that you are made bankrupt, its not great, but it's not like you will be arrested or hurt so please calm down, that in itself will help you loads!!

Good luck!!

your best bet is to take a list of your debts to the citizen advice beuro..i did and they really helped me sort it out.

Maid Angela
This is not a case for a web site. You need some debt counselling. Not one of those commercial companies they just make it worse. Go to citizens advice and ask them about debt counselling services they may even do it themselves. You need someone to sit down with you, go through everything and decided on a plan of action.

go to your nearest citizens advice, they will sort it out for you, i got all my debts reduced to a low monthly income with no interest, its worth seeing them.

Andre
Citizen's advice Bureau is your first stop. they can point you in the right direction, away from vultures who will only land you in deeper problems. They will def give you impartial advise on whether you should, for example, file for bankruptcy your claim refunds from your bank.

Stay strong and don't worry, you'll be ok.

I really know how you feel. I'm currently bankrupt and when I had people knocking at my door, chasing me for money I didn't have it really made me I'll.

First of all, relax!

Worrying won't make it go away.

Then I'd checkout some useful information documents from the CAB and the FSA to see what you can do available at http://www.bankruptcyservices.co.uk/downloads.html

There are government help books there and income and expenditure sheets to help you sort out what's what!

Good luck!

When I come home from work, I drive through a derelict area. Passing a gas station, I see kids going in all the time, buying soda for $1 a can and a 3 candies for $1.80. Everybody has a cell phone (the newest version) and $200 Nike's. America does not know, how to use money intelligently, its all about instant gratification.

If you debt is over £16,000 consider an IVA.

You need serious advise- firstly try the C.A.B , you could consider an I.V.A if your debts are over £15.000 [ search IVA there are plenty of sites.
Beware of debt management companies, they charge fees, find out what fees they charge before talking to them.
Or simply write to your creditors, [write not phone] tell them the situation and try to come to an agreement.
Firstly though go to the C.A.B.

You have took the first step by admitting you have a problem.
There are lots of websites and companies offering help but my advice is to go to the citizens advice bureaux who can put you in touch with a legitimate source of help some companies charge to give advice which only increases the problem.
Your first step needs to be informing the people you owe money too that there is a problem this is very difficult but essential they cannot help if they dont know the situation they might feel you are just ignoring their demands.Tell them there is a problem and you will be in touch when you have sought advice a lot of them will try and help themselves by reducing your payments and interest.
I have been in your position and two years ago I paid my last bill and have not looked back. I am cautious now about spending and have even built up savings.
Remember being in debt is not a crime you cannot be put in prison but you face it head on be clear to yourself that you must make some changes to your spending habits and take advice from someone who can help.
Good Luck

I always work to a budget planner.
Start with what you earn each month and deduct what you know you have to spend (only include your essential expenditure) what is left is known as disposable income. This is the money that you have to live on for the rest of the month. Do not ever spend more than your budget allows. By doing this and sticking with it you will develop a better understanding of your money. If it gets worse seek advice and talk to the people that you owe money to. They will try and help because if you file for bankruptcy the debt is wiped off and then they get nothing back.

Good Luck

Fat tony gives out loans >.<

try and focus one debt down at a time whilst paying the minimum on the others, the one with the highest interest rate should be your first.
