Foamy4President
$5000+

Cali is expensive, i lived in the bay area last year, and doubled my debt, while being in my highest paying job ever <which wasnt that high, but i was able to live in oregon just fine on it>

you will drive alot more <my gas bill was 200-300$ a month>, housing is insane....cali will bankrupt you if you dont make at least $80-100k a year

If you have dirt cheap rent, or a free place to stay, then you'll only need money for food and travel to your job interviews.

You might want to look into getting immediate, low paid, temporary work which will help to keep the savings from being drawn down as quickly. There are many temp agencies for this. You might also want to look into food stamps, unemployment, and charities if you find yourself in dire straits and are willing to take the hit on your dignity.

There is no magic figure for the amount of money you need. It depends on your rent, your willingness to live cheaply, your friends generosity and how quickly you find a job. Of course, more is better.

If you are willing to sleep on someone's floor or couch, eat nothing but vegetables and top ramen, drink tap water, and spend every waking minute looking for a job, then I suspect you could go out there on almost nothing.

I would have atleast 3000. You will need $$ to put down on a house/apt, deposits, groceries, and the likes. Plus, you dont knw how long it will be till you get a job that you like. I would reccomend getting a place to live and finding a job right away. Even if it not the one you want for the long run, it will help you get by until you find one that you do like.

It depends on where you plan to live. There are cheap areas and there are expensive areas.
This is California though and overall, not much is cheap here as far as real estate. I'd save up at least $6,000-$10,000 to cover apartment rent for a few months + food, gas, etc... Unless you can really find a job fast and a cheap place, $1000 will not be enough.

dVille
It also would help to answer this if we knew where you were moving from and how you are going to move.

Good Luck!!!!

Well do you need an apartment? You will have to put a deposit down. Do you have a car? Gas is higher in cali. Insurance on your car will be higher too. And think to yourself that for each day that youre out of work you need ~$50/day to live off of. Eating, gas, movies, rent, etc... it adds up fast. Try to find a job BEFORE you move. $1000 does not go very far these days.

It depends on where in California. The bigger cities are REALLY expensive and the smaller cities are still pretty expensive. I have friends in San Francisco that pay 1000 bucks a month for a studio. Rent will be your biggest expense but it will be a lot so you should save accordingly.

partygurlone
It depends on where you are looking to move in California. I definately recommend over $1000 if you are moving to a city. Is this money after you factor in the housing costs and normal living expenses? When I moved back to California, I saved as much money as I could before hand.

trust me u will need more than 1000 bux!!! at least 3 grand to help u until u find a job!!! and california gas is $3.50 a gallon so it's pretty pricey i know i live in los angeles!!!!

You probably need a few thousand. Housing out there seems to be pretty expensive compared to other areas.

Land Shark
You need 3 to 4 months take-home pay. If you currently don't have a job then enough money to cover your bills, including rent and groceries, for 3 to 4 months. This gives you plenty of time to find the right job for you and not settle for something less because you need the money. Another option is to have 2 months plus take on a waitering job after a couple of weeks to get you by until you find the right job.

rollingsaab
i heard its alot of money to live out there but the state is the best
