i guess it depends on where you live and the cost of living there. i live in southern california and my husband and i are making just over $2400 a month... we have one baby and we are barely making it.
we are considered lower-middle class. the worst place to be, in my opinion, because we don't qualify for financial help via the government but we are struggling on our own. :/ basically the lower class (with help from the government) are living better than we are right now, despite the fact that we earn more money monthly. what the hell kind of sense does that make? i know. this country has it's wires crossed.
i'd say, since you're income is only $12k a year, you're most definitely lower-class and can qualify for welfare or other government funded financial help. anything under $22k is considered lower class these days. |

Hello

I would say that puts your family on a very tight budget. But as long as you have food, shelter, clothes then your mom is doing a really good job |

I'd like to know her secret if she can raise 3 kids on 1000 a month. |

Under Federal guidelines, yes. Your family is officially below the "poverty line".
The "poverty line" for four in the household is $21,200/year, which is considerably more than $1000/month! |

It depends, how much is the rent? or the mortgage payment? and what about car expenses? gas? insurance?
Since my rent is $750 that would take up most of the $1000 I would say that's definitely not enough money to make ends meet- and not being able to make ends meet makes life extremely difficult.
But if I didn't have to pay rent or have to buy gas for the car so I could drive my car to work, or pay for health insurance, and I had $1000 to simply spend on groceries, clothing and other necessities- it would certainly be a luxury.
Your mother must get money from another source. Four people cannot live on $1000 per month. and yes, if you don't have money for the necessities- it's very difficult to be happy. That's why it's important to go to college and get educated and make sure you don't waste your life working at McDonalds. Having a little money in your savings account so you can travel or buy something nice for yourself is a wonderful luxury. If you can't do that for yourself, if you spend your life struggling to make ends meet- tell me, what kind of a life is that? Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy a little enjoyment and freedom from the everyday hassles of life. |

That's not a lot to raise 3 kids on. But as long as she sends her kids to a good public school, has a home, has cheap transportation, and can pay the utilities, she should be okay. She should look around for benefits for poor people like food pantries and medicaid so she can save up her money. You have to learn how to work the system. If you want to go to college look for jobs where they can pay for your college education when you're older. I and some of my friends paid for our college tuition without any family helping financially.

Well.i would say not poor.Just not wealthy enough to raise all of you including herself...But it depends how she spends it.If you or your siblings are old enough to work.Do it.It will help out sooo much. |

It is quite likely a challenge for your mom; especially if she has to pay rent, electric and water bill, gas for the car and food for everyone. There may be a chance that she qualifies for financial assistance from the government. You don't mention any details; it seems like your mom is doing a really good job with you and your two siblings. I sense that you live in a very happy home. |

No only if you think you are she might feel stressed to make end meet every month but having a family is the richest thing in life to have aslong as you have the basic ness then you will be fine.
You kids could always do jobs like paper runs and collect bottles for cash to help her out abit if your worried about money and if your old enough to work full time or atleast part time then it would be a big help for you mom. |

only in technical terms. if you have a dream to be somebody earning much more than that, you are the richest person you ever want to be. |

you're not considered poor until you can't afford food, school, apartment, and a reasonable amount of clothes... plus the bills... if you can pay them off then i guess you're managing well... but just because your mom live this life doesn't mean you have to.. if you want to be rich go ahead and study in private..look up some good jobs, make your choice, and look at some websites with info |

Yes, that is poor. You're living below half the poverty line which is around 22k and that's for a single person and considering you have 4-5 members. Very Bad! |
