Depends where you live. In the bay area, San Francisco, it's about middle class. In some areas here, you need 60,000 just to get by. |

Middle class in classical economic terms is the group who obtain their income from business activities or investing, while lower class is those who gain a livlng from the work they do, and the upper class gain a living by owning property, such as real estate.
The middle income group is typically described as the 2 income quartiles in the middle, when ranking all incomes into those 4 quartiles.
The upper and lower middle income quartiles are
not clearly bounded, since a given income in one area will put one in one or the other in a different area.
110,000 is in many areas well into the upper middle quadrant.
But income quadrant is not correctly called a class. |

Well the answer is all relative to your location. However, speaking from personal experience, $110,000 is middle or possible lower middle class in the SF Bay Area.
According to Wikipedia, the median income for a SF family is $68,000
However, the SF Chronicle recently put out a report that a family needs to make AT LEAST $77,000 to SURVIVE, not be comfortable.
The median home price in San Francisco is near $850,000 and it is the 2nd most expensive place to live outside NY
Honestly, $110,000 means a couple makes roughly $55,000 a year each, which is not enough to cut it around here.
$250,000-$500,000 a year is a upper middle class existence, $500,000+ is upper class. Middle class around here is two BMWs or Mercedes-Benzs.
Sorry, but in the SF Bay Area you are barely paying the bills.
But like I said, its all relative right? |

Middle Class.
Upper if you have no children. |

Depends on where u live. If you have more than just 2 ppl in the family.. I'd lower the standard a bit. more mouths to feed means less income per capita.
In places like Chicago, NY, Mass, NJ.. it's lower middle..
Calif. - lower
mid america - middle |

Upper middle class - though this might vary depending on the number of children. $110K is much different for a family with 1 or 2 children compared to a family with 4 or 5 children. |
