Median household income is $44,389. so the answer to your question is yes. in fact half of the population would be more that happy to make $150,000 |

It's a nice number but not really the correct question. I know plenty of people that make that much or more but many of them have little in the way of investments/savings. You could make 75K or far less and do better in the long run than someone with 150K and not saving for the future. The average American earns 40K a year (www.salary.com). Consider that the national saving rate is negative and you can see that no matter what the income level is Americans are never happy. Boycott Starbucks, don’t smoke, buy in bulk, research purchases (consumer reports) and you can save a bundle. |

Depends on where you live.
In NYC it doesn't go far!
Part of the reason is taxes- the taxes here are VERY high (I was bringing home the same amount making 7.80 an hour in Missouri and 9.00 an hour in NY). Another reason is rent. $1800 a month in a safe neighborhood anywhere NEAR NYC is considered "reasonable".
Except for the major cities, 150000 per year is doing pretty darn good! |

That's a lot more than most people make. And I'm not talking about the people that live below the poverty line. You can live in an affluent neighborhood if you're making half that amount. |
