Is $40000 alot of money?

Of course it is. But it also depends on other things such as what the money is tasked for. If you are buying or selling a house for that much, that is not a lot of money. If you are buying or selling a low end car for that much, then it is a lot of money.

But I don't think there's anyone who would consider $40,000 cash to be "a little money".

Depends.

It's a lot to be in debt.
It's a lot to pay for a car.

But it'll fly out your fingers in no time flat if you don't invest it somehow.

If that's your yearly salary, it's not a lot.

Yes. It's more money than about 60% of the country makes (after taxes) in a year.

Special Love
It depends.

Curious
for what? it's a lot to pay for a car, not enough to buy a home, and many people support a family on this much every year, but many more earn much less. if you're asking, it must mean you're really young.

It's all relative. Depends what you need. If you already own your home and car, then 40k would buy a lot of little "wants". On the other hand, if you wanted to buy a Ferrari, it would be a mere down payment.

one lump sum? or annually?

yaguru
well in terms of major purchases you can make with it, not really. Like a nice car, and not even over nice is easily 40,000.

A house is quite a bit more that that on average.

If it is free money.....Heck yeah!!!

Not really.

It's a nice chunk of change though...............

Yes. It can be even more if you invest it correctly. Think compounding interest.
