I'm looking forward to pursuing a job in Architect and I read in multiple places that these were the average salaries. I live a somewhat horticulture life style, I love rich nice looking things. So I'm just wondering, is this an average salary or would you consider someone with this income to be 'rich' or well off?

It depends on where you live. A $750,000 house in Chicago or Boston would cost $250,000 in the Southeast. Are you living in cold weather climes or warm weather. It costs a lot to heat a house through the winter in some areas and next to zero in others.
In most of the US, I think you would have a comfortable life in this range.

I wonder if you realize that "a somewhat horticulture life style" means "some sort of farmer lifestyle". Well, I think it does! lol. No you don't sound greedy at all especially if by "rich nice looking things." you mean mirrors and colored chairs :)
On 70k the right people can do miracles, like buying a $200k home in six years for CASH, so if you like growing your own potatoes you'll be able to save up even more! |

That depends on how much you spend on the education (student loans) to get the degree.
If it costs you thousands of dollars in student loans that come due for repayment after you start your Architect job then you won't have much discretionary money left to spend after your fixed bills and your student loan repayment each month.
Curtail the expensive taste until you can fully enjoy the money you earn and your student loan is paid off.
P.S. What is a horticulture life style? I mean... what does "plant cultivation" have to do with loving rich nice looking things? |

that is about average. architect is a good feild to get into. and you could end up making alot more money then average if you are good at it. :) go for it. |

I think that is the average salary. But its not going to get you all the "rich nice looking things" to be honest. You're only going to be able to just make it... If you want to be able to get those nice things, you need to make at least $100,000. At that salary, you're considered rich. |

Depends on your expenditures.. if you're single and renting an apartment, that's probably quite a bit of money, but for a family of 3 or more, it won't go that far.. Totally depends. |

Well, it all depends on where you live. If it is in NY, the best salary would be above 60,000. If you have a family, average would be above 50,000 with the support of your husband. In other places, salary is different, could be more or less, but I am giving you an estimate... |

Depends on where you live. But if you have the drive try pursuing a landscape architect degree. This way you are able to design buildings while you can also design landscape for the wealthy. You open your self up to many different job opportunities this way. |

It's so not enough money to live the life style you want. This income is poor if you don't know how to make your money work for you. After tax's, paying the note on the benz, plus rent, shopping and eating your broke again. You will need a husband. |
