Is being 27 and having a $9.50 an hour job pathetic?

Kismet
does it make you happy to have that job? can you survive? if so then don't worry about it. if that bothers you then look into possibly getting something better. go to school etc.

Under Bill Clinton? Yes.

Under George Bush? No, you're lucky to have a job.

Obviously, you are not happy with your job status or would not ask this question. If the job pays the bills and you enjoy it, that's all that counts. However, you are not 16 anymore and need to plan for the future (marriage, kids, home, retirement plan, etc.) On the other hand, I'm 27 and make $25.00 an hour and hate my job... go figure.

kpaddack2
Not at all. Anyone who works for a living deserves respect. How much you make is irrelevant, as long as it's enough to support you and anyone else you support.

Sephra
At least you have a job. Being lazy and not working at all would be pathetic!
Keep up the good work and maybe you'll get a raise!

noelleinnh
No, but, I would hope you're looking to move upwards.

ElfRuler
Not if the person is aspiring to do something more.

That depends on if you have a degree or not. If you do not, that is pretty good. If you have a degree, you can and should be making more. If you are at an entry level position and have a degree; don't worry, you will get experience and will make more at your next job or you will get raises faster at current job. Also, it depends on what geographical area you are in. In Austin Texas (central Texas), that would be horrible and no one can survive on that but in San Angelo Texas (west Texas) your banking! Good luck!

You should strive to make somewher ein the double digits. If it's just you and you live at home and have no responsibilities except yourslef then no. I am 26 and make 17.37 hr. Mind you I have no degree or anything but know that I can make way more if/when I finish school. So think about going to school or getting certified in something.

SLOPPY JACK
If your going to college and this is a job to get money then NO, but if this is your full time job and your not trying to make MORE money then YES.

jmm197035
To whom it may concern,
When people start to get down on them selves about money, how much they make etc. It makes me want to share something with them. It doesnt matter what you make , as long as you're happy. Love your job, at least your working?
Right? RIGHT ON !

Not at all. Having a job is being a very responsible citizen. That said, if you are feel you are underpaid, you should ask for more money.

If you don't like your job, you should find one you like better, no matter what the pay.

hyeena_7
If you finished college, a little. If you didn't, keep trying.

sue_ward05
Hey I'm 29 and have a 7.00 an hour job but husband is self employed in construction and makes much more so I work just to get out the the house and make alittle spending money 9.50 an hour is pretty good if your happy with your place of employment then thats all that matters. Is it possible for you to get a raise? Maybe not right now but later down the road?

brianalan_7
If that job pays health insurance then you are much better off. I wouldn't worry about $9.50, at least you have a job. As far as the college goes, forget about that it's not worth the money. I have a high school diploma and make twice as much as most Bachelor Degrees. It's way to expensive and not worth the time.

well lets look at it this way....many people dont have jobs to begin with....so +1. many people deffinatley arent questioning their lives at your age, you are....+1. if you are planning on being at the same job forever, then its bad....-1. if you dont have any plans for your future, then its bad....-1. but what you need to think about is, what do you like to do? if you like to do something further your expertise in it and make it into a marketable assest, whether it be in the work force or in other ways.....if you like this job and dont mind getting paid 9.50 then more power to ya, just bide your time work your best and youll be the owner of that job in no time............good luck, God bless
