I just switched my banks, and I was cleaning out my stuff and I have ALOT of old bank statements (it just shows the transactions Ive made and stuff) but I wasnt sure if I should keep them or is it safe to throw them away now since I am no longer with them and with a different bank? If everything is final and clear it shouldn't hurt to shred your statements. I would keep the final for your records just in case. Also, If you do not like keeping your statements, most banks offer e-statements. The bank I use lets you look at statements all the way to the day that you signed up for the service. You only print when need to do so. Save time cleaning, and save a tree. |

You should keep all financial documents for 7 years in case you get audited. It's much cheaper to hang onto that paper than to pay the bank to reproduce them all should you need them for any reason. |

If you think you might need them for some sort of proof of income reasons, file them away some where If not then just be sure to shred them and then throw them away. Hope this helps! |

It is wise to keep an and all finical records for 7 years in case you get audited. Then after that period make sure you shred them so someone doesn't try to steal your identity! |

you only need to save 3 years back. anything older you can trash. i would just save one paper with the account information just incase you ever need it. but no need to save all of them |

Personally, my rule of thumb is keep them10 years, then shred or burn, but dont just throw away. |

I've always thought that keeping old statements is a good thing for about two years. Last year in fact I actually received a phone call that my account (that was closed SIX years prior) was still open with a negative balance well over $100. Luckily, I hadn't done my 2 year spring cleaning of old records! It turned out it was a scam, but still - it doesn't hurt to keep them for at least two years after the fact. |

yes you keep them for 3 years and then when you do throw them away you shred them dont' just throw away anything with your name address or anything it can be easy to get your stuff and create a new you be very careful. take care. |
