Is it possible to live with no credit cards?
If you have no credit cards, can you still get a mortgage?

Yes, The only thing that it's not possible to live without is God.

zornundox
It is very possible to live without credit cards. You just need to use your income to bankroll your lifestyle and then try to save even more on top of everything else. As for getting a mortgage, if your job is steady enough and you have no other debt, you will be a shoe in for a loan.

You need to have a credit rating to get a mortgage. This is, essentially, a track record of how you do paying back money you borrowed. Credit cards are the fastest way of doing this.

But, other things, like car payments and tuition payments will affect your credit rating too.

You can get a mortgage, but you'll be classified as a higher risk. This means you'll probably have to put more money down.

yes, credit cards are just debt.

and Joshua, i don't believe in god, and i'm better for it. i don't JUDGE people because of it.

yes. credit cards only make it harder for you to pay your bills. your interest rate might be higher at first as compared to others, but after a few months/years you could negotiate it as long as it's paid on time.

I think you need one good credit card that you can pay off entirely each month without accruing interest (penalties?)

I'm living proof I,m 39 years young and never owned a credit card and getting a mortgage has nothing to do with having a credit card.

The Nikki
It is possible to live without credit cards-- my parents don't have any credit cards. Granted they paid for their house with cash-- so there was no need for a mortgage. I'm sure it's possible to still get a mortgage, if you show proof that you pay your bills on time (or pay a large chunk towards your house).

Get a bank or Interact card

Laissez-Faire Guy
Sure you can live, but there are things that will be denied to you.

You need a credit history to get a mortgage, car loans, business loans, etc. Credit cards help you get that credit history. It's also much harder to rent cars and book travel.

Furthermore, credit cards give you a level of protection when buying things. If you are cheated, you can dispute the charge with the credit card company and they will go to bat for you. If you pay cash, you are screwed.
