Is it safe to post my bank details on my website
This is no joke, I give language lessons from time to time and want to make a professional website. I noticed that many big companies give their details, so I thought there can't be any harm in giving mine (bank code and account no.) I'm in England. Thank you!

I can't say I've ever seen any companies post their bank a/c details online. Sometimes they're at the bottom of invoices....

I would not suggest doing this: is it really necessary?
Do you teach pupils on line?

Personally I wouldn't do it love - just have your telephone number on there, that way they have to call you if they want to pay you electronically, and you can keep a better eye on who asks for them.
You just never know.

Most web hosts do a "check-out" page - like my host company 1 & 1 ... you can set up a webpage payment method - like via paypal.... etc..Dont have your bank details listed for everyone to see...

Well, it's safe to post your account details on the internet as it's impossible to withdraw money from it. The problem is that it's not the best way for payments. Why don't you use google check out or paypal? I wouldn't personally post my bank details everywhere just for the sake of it.

Michael A
Please do not give details of your bank account, Very dangerous for individuals. Fraudulent people will take advantage and ask you for your signature.

For corporate organisations, a specific account is opened at a bank for payment into it only after advertisement of their product. Certainly no withdrawals, no scam, no dirty tricks.

Are you serious?

There is no way i would give out details like that. Eeek!

No, that's the daftest thing I've heard today. It has to be a secure site and I don't expect yours is. You could loose all your money and more.

Marcie H
I think you need need to take a course on common sense. Come on post your banking account information for everyone to see?? And you see nothing wrong with it??? That's the scary part..

Sir Alan Sugar
No that would be an incredibly stupid thing to do. Do not do this.

You could set up a business account with PayPal and accept payments via a hyperlink provided, which you could put on your Web site.

I did this with a Freeware Lotto Checker program that I wrote, so that if people liked my program they could donate a small amount via PayPal.

****************

Note: Generally I do not see a problem with handing out your sort code & account number for people to make payments to you. Someone would need the whole number across the card to pay for something, probably along with expiry date etc. Its just that putting all of this along with your name, address, telephone number etc. on a Web site means that people start to have a little too much information about you, and "anyone" could see the details without you being able to trace them. Then you are in danger of people applying for things like credit cards in your name etc.

That sounds very risky to me!

It's fairly safe because people can't do much - except put money in your account. There is a slim chance they could try to submit a fradulent direct debit agreement to your bank based on those numbers.

Sort and account numbers aren't usually protected. They are shown on every cheque you write. I often see organisation bank and sorts on the internet.

Heather
No, it's not safe to do that! Are you dumb?
