Is it safe to shred the receipt they give you back when you pay with a debit card?
I was just curious, is it safer to shred or can you just crumple it up and throw it away?

I suggest recycling them. Shred or crumple at your discretion.

I always shred them after I check my bank statement that they appear on.

Derek O
It is safe to crumple and throw it away as long as;

The receipt only has the last four numbers of the card and not all of the numbers (most do that now)

It is best ,to wait until it has cleared your bank and posted to your account to dispose of it.

Most of the time you can just crumple it up because the receipt only shows the last four of your account number but it's safer to log in your expenses and then shread. If you can get a cross shredder. It cuts in two ways downward diagonally. That makes it nearly impossible for anyone to read it besides a forensic team. Or you coud do what I do and simply light it on fire at the checkout counter shortly after asking the checkout clerk, "do you believe in magic?"

It should be shredded after confirming the transaction was correctly done with your bank.

Gerald
If ya own a shredder use it...

mister ed
shred would be alot cheaper my self i chew them up and use them for spit balls!!!

Brenda
It is probable safer to shred, but the receipts do not have the whole account number on them, only the last couple of numbers.

I shred everything.

patrick
Yes.
The receipts do not have your entire account number printed on them, so your identity can not be taken.

Better to shred.

You can just throw it away -- it doesn't have any sensitive information on it.

I would shred after you receive your bank statement.
