Is it true that after seven years, if you owe money to a lender, legally you do not have to pay it back if you have made no payment |

In your dreams. Thats like saying you have a mortgage and that in 7 years you don't have to pay it back. Guess what's going to happen if you stop paying in 7 years? You are going to risk losing your home, your credit score will significantly go down, and its going to be very difficult for you to apply for credit or a loan.
I can relate something to a 7 year period and that is a credit report. A credit report will show at least 7 years of credit history. |

Do you honestly think a lender is going to let you go 7 years without paying? |
|

Diddy
 |
Nope ... you still owe me ... so pay up, or i'll send Guido round to pay you a visit.
But seriously ... If you file bankruptcy then you may be able to avoid paying back some debts. Unless you ow money to the Mob ... in which case you'll be sleeping with the fishes before 7 years go by. |

You need to find out what the statute of limitations is for your state and type of loan. |
|

Randy
|
No... After 7 years from the delinquency the item is usually removed from your credit report. There is also a statute of limitations that varies between states (3-15 years, depending on state and type of debt). If it has been longer than that time, you can use that as your defense if the lender takes you to court. However, the lender can still pursue any means of collection available to them. Also, you have to be careful not to start that time over by acknowledging the debt or making a payment. PAY YOUR BILLS! Trust me, you'll lose more money to higher rates (on nearly everything) for those 7 years than it's worth. |

I've never heard of this, but good luck going 7 years without getting sued for the money or having your wages garnished. |
|

Well, sort of. But, you need to check all the little details of the statute of limitations on the debt. The original debtor can sell that debt to a collections agency. If they start calling trying to collect, and you even acknowledge it in any way, that can start the whole thing all over again. I also think the laws vary from state to state. |

No...What country are you in?? In the US the only way a debt is forgiven is if you file a bankruptcy and the debt is dismissed by the bank. The bad debt corrupts your credit, which, you will learn is a very valuable commodity. Good Credit is hard to come by and takes discipline. But the benefits are great. Lower rates on cards and loans.
I would recommend that you call the creditor and work out a payment plan. Many time they will w/o the finance charges and even take 1/2 payment and close the account. But it will still probably leave a bad record on your credit rating. |

Um, no, I don't think so. Why would you be let off the hook that easy? It makes no sense! If this is true, point me in the direction of where I could apply for this type of loan because it sounds like free money to me! And there is really no such thing as free money. |

depends on the circumstances. and if you signed a contract for it. exceptions are the inland revenue. they can go back yrs and yrs and screw you. |

seems a bit farfetched to borrow money and not pay it back?????!!!!! |

Breezey is saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY
 |
Some lenders let it go as a tax right off. Others just leave it there until it's paid. |
|

Capt Crasher
 |
Uh...No. It's not true.
7 years is the limit on how long they can pursue a minor "debt" like a bounced check that they would have no additional legal means to collect on.
HOWEVER, if You CLAIM the +7 year old debt (If a collection agency calls and asks if it's Your debt and You say "YES! I wrote that check, but it's been 7 years so I don't have to pay it!") it can be revived and they can harass You for 7 more years...
Most lenders will take additional steps like filing lawsuits & getting judgements (which NEVER GO AWAY until You pay them) against You LOOOOONG before 7 years (about 6 months)... |

apparently so after 7 yrs your debt is wiped as is your criminal record but 7 yrs is a long time to fend of them, bully bailiffs |

I hope so..... |
