Is it worth giving up $100k yr job and be happy doing something making much less?

I beleive that everyone is born with their purpose and dreams in their heart. You will be miserable if you chase after money instead of your God given destiny. If you follow your purpose God will supply every one of your needs and you won't just be happy but you will have joy. Happiness is based on your circumstances but joy is in your contentment in your circumstances. Meaning if your doing what you are meant to be doing even when your sad you will still be happy becasue you will have no regrets.

alot of things comes to mind

there was a movie I can't remember the name of it but
this guy works for NASA gave up his job just to teach high school high risk drop out.

and 100% of his student pass class

so that something you might want to give up your high income lifestyle for a down to earth life.

something to think about

Happiness is what matters in life not money. You could make all the money in the world and still not be happy. The rich stay depressed and the poor stay happy...btw I'm poor and I'm happy.

Only you can answer that. But, I know a few people (southern Calif.) that made their own decision similar to the one you are contemplating. Two of them became surfers, "surf bums" if you will. They both claimed that they are making more $$ now, in "surfing" than they would be making in their own "stressed out" jobs. Plus, they both claim they have "lower" blood pressure.
A third one runs a small gardening/lawn maintenance business - for select customers only, because he doesn't need headaches.
My question to you: Do you need "prestige" in your job title?
Yes, only you! Regards, whatever your decision.
P.S. The IRS wants you to work harder and get a raise,

I would try to keep the higher paying job, hack your brain, maybe check into a hypnotist to help with that.

unless job you will like still pays well, but if its like 24k a year or something that is crap no freekin way. take that 100k, invest as much as you can (should be able to invest at least half that and still live well) get to the point you can retire early then just enjoy life and do what ever the hell you want to!

It depends how well you've been taking care of that $100k a year + how far away from retirement you are - if you've been p*ssing it up the wall, and there ain't much left at the end of the year then no.

If you're 10 / 15 / 20yrs from Retirement age..... got your pension plan pretty much fully paid up..... got a fair bit invested on the stockmarket + a high interest savings account... perhaps purchased a bit of real estate with development potential and / or some gold or silver bullion stashed away you can sell in an emergency... then you could maybe give it a shot.

im an advocate of doing what makes you happy, especially if u can live comfortably financially...thats a tough one

You might live longer and keep yourself and your loved ones happier for longer if you do something you enjoy. What's the use to spend your 100k on meds to treat your heartburn caused by the anger that is building up in you in an unsatisfying job situation?

Depends how happy you are with the $100K/year job.

But, money doesn't buy happiness. When you're retired and looking back on your life, would you rather be satisfied and poor, or miserable and rich?
