my friends call me rich and its really annoying. i understand i'm lucky to be blessed with this ,but my dad earned this (both parents have ph. d's)

it all depends on the person who's calling your dad rich. most likely, your friends' parents do not own as many assets as your dad, and that's why they think your dad is rich. it sounds like you guys live in a small town and there isn't much there to compare to. personally i don't think your dad is rich -- he only has a couple of houses, not to mention they're pretty small and only one investment property. bmw's aren't really all that. ph d's are a dime a dozen these days. you have nothing to worry about, kid. if your friends are calling you rich, i think they just don't know better. |

Rich is generally a term of perception.
To the US government, economic income of $50,000 can be upper middle class.
My sister feels she is rich compared to me. She has an expensive home (interest only), a bunch of cars (not paid for) and a lot of debt.
My home is more modest (paid for), medium cars (paid for) and no debt. I could almost live off of my savings. |

if you still have mortgages to pay for the houses and repayment for the cars, then your just an empty nut shell.
if ALL the houses and cars are FULLY paid for, then your rich. if not, stop pretending that mud is chocolate. |

Well, he's rich in the perspective of most people (me). Whether or not he earned it himself is irrelevant to whether or not he is rich.
I think he's rich. But if he earned it, he deserves it. |

If you do, tell your friends that your dad is 'rich.'
It is all a matter of perspective, and having material objects may only signify 'deep debt.' |

Yes, I would call that rich. You're either in the upper class or middle upper class.

I'm no guru or nothin', but I wouldn't say rich. When I hear the term rich I think of millionaires or wealthier.
I think the term "well off" is a bit more accurate.
