Is now the time to withdraw your savings from the Banks!?
Should you cash in your pension??

if you have more than £35,000 in a UK bank then yes.. don't keep more than the UK guarantee of £35k in any one bank
IIRC its $100,000 US.
one thing to be wary of is that if you owe money to the same institution its netted off so theres a good reason not to have a deposit account with the same institution as you have mortgage or other loan.
not all banks trading in the UK are covered by this scheme, if you stick to the major UK banks you will be OK, what the position fo non UK banks or internet banks like ING direct I dunno
I'd think very very carefully about cashing in a pension.... depending on your age and expected retirement date... pensions attract tax benefits, cashing them in sn't he smartest move you could make. there is no doubt that equities are by far the best long term investment, but they do have short term problems, it's be a brave person sho invests in equities right now (goevernment bonds may be a better bet, or even foreign exchange the pound is horrendously overvalued, arguably the country is or is nearly bankrupt [cheers Gordy])

This is how WaMu collapsed. There was panic and people pulled out their money (called a run on the bank) and the bank folded.

Only if you've got somewhere even safer and more productive to put it!

That is the worst thing you can do, if you were to withdraw your money from your bank then you would still lose money, you would not be earning any interest on your money and over a period of time it would be worth less than it is now.

If you are in the UK the the government will guarantee £ 50,000 of you savings so that you are pretty well covered. The other thing i id you withdraw your money from a bank it is less secure against theft and none of the western governments will let their main banks turn turtle. Panic withdrawals started the depression of the thirties surely we have learn and are wiser then then. My money stays firmly in the banks and what shares I have, I will ride the financial problems with and will not sell them

No. You don't have to do anything unless you exceed the insurance limits on deposits.

I don't care what people say, but if the FDIC is having a problem then I'm getting my money.

"but you hurt the bank" Oh, well. What's more important the people or the banks? I know banks do a lot of good, give credit and loans but
I'm not a millionaire that can afford for the FDIC to have a "hiccups" and also need bailing out.

and where are you going to put your cash?

If you want to be part of the reason that the economy collapses entirely, sure, go ahead.

The US was in dire need of economic reform and what's going on now is a result of that need for change. Consumers played as big a part in it as banks did.

As long as your funds are FDIC insured, they're safe with the bank. MUCH safer than cash is. I have heard some scary stories of people taking out money, storing it at home and being robbed (or worse, being robbed as they leave the bank).

And don't believe the BS and hype that everyone says about FDIC not having enough money to cover everyone's funds. They have the full backing of the US Government, which fully guarantees all insured funds will be covered.
