moi | Is there a better way to build good credit then to get a credit card? |
when we asked the bank what we could do to raise our credit score the only answer they gave was to get a credit card. i got the same answer from 2 other mortgage companies. i really do not want a credit card. we are trying to fix our credit from some mistakes and carelessness a few years ago. i personally do not believe a credit card is the right way to go for me. is there any other way? |

While credit cards are a great way to build credit, they are also great for destroying credit (if you get over your head in high interest debt and don't make timely payments).
There are other ways you can improve your credit score, they just take a little longer and more effort (sometimes).
1. Get a copy of your credit report and thoroughly check it – inside and out. If there are any issues, any at all, send a dispute in writing (postal mail) to either Equifax, Experian, or Trans Union Corporation.
2. Keep paying off any debts you have on time – mortgage, car payments, student loans, credit cards, etc
Paying off your current debts will help your debt to income ratio (how much money you owe vs. how much money you make - a very important factor in determining credit score ) as well as build a history of paying bills. Paying bills on time and paying off current debt is the one sure way to go.
The problem I think you are facing is that you have no credit history. Some utilities now report their bills to credit agencies. By paying off all gas and electric bills on time, you may actually be building credit. Again, check your credit report to see what is reported. On my credit report, my local gas and electric company reports my bill. Each time I pay it in full, I am building my credit.
I’ve included a link to our credit guide, which can also give a few suggestions. Good luck and feel free to contact me through my profile if you have any questions. |

Or buy a car and make the payments on time... but yeah the credit card is the easiest. |

Hello, if you buy a new car and make no late payments for one year your credit score will go up. Also you can refineance your car loan after the 1st year for a cheaper interest rate and lower monthly payment due to your credit going up. Hope this helps. God Bless.. |

ook at three simple steps that can get you a jumpstart towards good credit history.
1. A checking or savings account
Begin with opening a checking account in your name. This is the first step towards acquaintance with banking and financial institutions. The idea is to open a bank account as early as possible, keep it in good standing, and it should reflect financial stability. And yes, the bank account should be in your name. Don't open and close bank accounts too frequently as this is perceived wrongly by credit reporting agencies. If you open a savings account, the money deposited in it can be used for security purpose when you want a loan.
2. Start paying the bills with your name
You need a mobile right? Go ahead and get a connection in your name and pay the bills so that they build credibility to your name. The way you pay your bills matter the most. If you pay everything on time and in full, a good credit history is waiting for you. The converse is also true. If you start faltering on your bill payments it will reflect badly on your credit history and you will definitely face problems while getting good credit cards and loans on cheaper terms.
3. Get a credit card
Students get numerous offers for credit cards when they enter a college. Some of them get carried away and take a few, and then use them to pay for all kind of things, and end up in debt. This is definitely not advisable. Credit cards are essential to building a credit history but too many credit cards do not build credit history faster. The thing that matters most for credit reporting agencies is how well you are able to repay your debts. Remember any credit card money is a loan which has to be repaid. The less the loan the better it is for you. So, try to get one good credit card and start using it wisely. Credit cards are the best way to build credit. If you always pay your bills on time and in full then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. |

not really. It's the easiest. Just get a card and lock it away. The credit limit on the card compared to the balance on the card (zero) is what helps your credit score. |

get a secured card. that way, when u use it, you are paying yourself back and building good credit at the same time. |

Do not focus on building a credit score, instead focus on building a good savings score. Whats the use of good credit if your broke. Right?
credit is good, but cash is king, so forget about fixing your credit score and fix your savings score.
your priority right now is to slowly pay down your debts and at the same time increase your savings.
you must first establish an emergency account to replace credit card emergencies. Also, a mid range account to pay for your yearly vacations, a new car, etc. instead of financing them. lastly, start investing in a retirement plan,so that you'll enjoy life in your later years. most importantly protect your assets by investing in the "right" life insurance,so that your family will be protected and you'll have that peace of mind. Don't you agree? |

unfortunately no. if you get a credit card make sure it's one with a small limit with a low interest rate and when you use it - make sure you have the same amount (or more) of money stored either in the bank or in your wallet so you can put it aside every month and use it to pay it off. |
