Use online banking and check your transactions against the online reports at least weekly. Another alternative is to use a PDA and keep track. They also make a "smart" checkbook that has a built-in calculator with memory that can keep track of your balance. |

I have a cool program called Microsoft Money.
It is a check register, but also tracks my spending.
It shows me pie charts and graphs of where my money is going.
My bank allows me to tie them together so I don't have to put in the data. (my bank started charging so I dropped this).
You might find a free old copy on the net. If not, I think it costs about 50 dollars. See if someone you know has it, you can copy it.

I quit using my register and balancing my account years ago. I use straight internet banking now where I get alerts, can look at the balance and transctions, transfer money between accounts, etc. |

most banks offer online banking. it takes the laziness out of doing the check register, since it automatically does it for you. |

Try Quicken. I use the business program Quickbooks in my business and it works great. |

I used to have two checking accounts. On the first of each month I would switch checkbook registers. At the end of the month, the first account would be very easy to balance as virtually all checks would have cleared. At the end of the next month, the other account. |

Yes. Put everything into a computer. That way you can always find it. You can even e-mail the details to yourself before you travel. |

Now that the internet is so big. Online banking is the way to go. You can check your money day by day, but of course if you do start online banking I would recommend checking your computer for viruses or Key loggers. You can't be to safe when your doing online banking. |

I use online banking and monitor my accounts everyday. I prefer this way because I can see everything instantly and not have to wait for bank statements. |
