Is there any other way to stop me from spending money besides keeping all my money in coins?
I have money spending problems, I have the money to spend...but I really should not be spending on things I really don't need. So I have recently been keeping all my money in quarters in my closet (rolled). I am not joking...I have over $1000 in quarters. Is there any other way?
Additional Details
Keeping quarters has been working...but there must be a better way?

Yes there is a couple ways to solve your problem. First you could just do what you are doing but thats inconvenient and sounds funny if you told people you were keeping a ton of money in quarters in your closet. Another way would be to spend all you money and have no more at all and then you would have none to spend. Although that would leave you with nothing and then you would die. I would suggest equating how much hours you worked for every item you purchase. For instance if you bought a T-Shirt for twenty bucks how long did you work for that twenty bucks. If you make minimum wage then you would be working for for four hours is that really worth it? Do you think that you could spend that work just for a T-Shirt? That is what I do when I find myself spending money for fun and it really puts things into perspective!!!

start investing money. Set up an ING account, or find a bank that has a high interest rate, so you make more money. However you can't touch your money over a period of time

Two words come to mind... self-control and will-power.

piggy bank it or donate it to charity. look, I don't see this as a problem.

try putting money that you want to save into a savings account.

Each payday, if you go to the bank, order a U.S. Savings Bond. They can be bought for $25, $50, $100, etc. You cannot cash these in for a year! They earn a decent interest rate ... more than most savings accounts. And they're safe ... if the U.S. Government folds, we're all in trouble anyway.

Well how many other people have you ever heard of doing this or recommending that people keep their money tied up in change in their closet?

NONE???!!!

Ok well then you know their MUST be another way. Like how about you open a bank account and don't have that account linked to your debit card!!!!! Go and talk to your bank and see what options there are. Like Help, I need an account I can never access or take money OUT OF.

I'd advise you to see a financial counselor and a psychiatrist (honest). Find out from the professionals about the urge you have to spend, spend, spend. Until you do this - buy U.S. Savings Bonds. It will be taken directly out of your check and you can't touch them for at least ten years. Low interest earnings, but it's better than stashing quarters away!

YAH DEFINATELY!! HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A BANK?
NO, LISTEN!! Get a CD { No NOT A MUSIC VIDEO, }
NO, NOT A MOVIE either!!
Put your money in a cd , it is safe, earns interest, you can't touch it for how ever long you choose!! Make $ on your $!!!
Go to your bank, and ask about cd's!!!!! Trust me!! I did it!!!
Just keep track of your paperwork....

Open an account at a small credit union. Don't get an ATM or Debit card. The harder it is to get to, the better. Have part of your paycheck automatically deposited there.

I have a spending problem too but I lost my purse this week and that really helps. Basically only bring money with you when you need. Like when you are grocery shopping.

How about putting it into a bank account that you don't have a debit card for. In other words if you have to walk into a bank to withdraw the money would you still spend it as readily. Or entrust it to someone else and let them give you an allowance. I know a few former drug addicts who do this cause they acn't trust themselves with money.

I've never thought of quarters - that's a pretty good idea, though.

If your under 18 just keep it in a bank.
If your over than just remember how hard it is to earn it, considering you spend it so easily I'm guessing you've probably never worked and your under 18 so just put it in a bank.
