Yes she may be able to apply for credit but that doesn't mean that creditors will want to give her credit, because theres going to be a big red light that will say BANCRUPCY and if she losses her job he might have trouble finding a new one, a new apartment, and she will have this status for 7 years so its no easy cake to just have yor creditors brushed off |

Dont worry...after declaring bankruptcy its extremely hard to get decent credit...infact she wont have another chance to get decent credit for 10 years. |

She will be able to apply for credit only under someone else's name, as she is now deemed a bad payer. |

Such is the law! While there are genuine cases, who do deserve a chance, there are those who are just irresponsible and don't care, as they know that they will get a 'slap' on the wrist and be able to mess up again... As for he rest of us, we just try to make ends meet but without the credit! |

Oh, she can *apply* for credit - that doesn't mean she'll get it, or that the terms will be anything besides brutal.
Bankruptcy stays on your credit history for at least 7 years, so any time she applies for any kind of loan or credit, they will stick her with insane interest rates and conditions, and possibly refuse her altogether. |

ah ... but she won't be able to file BK again for 7 years.
so if she messes up this time, there's no respite for her from the collectors and creditors. They'll call again and again, get judgments, attach her paycheck, lien her car (and house if she has one), grab her tax refund, everything and anything short of hounding her into the poor house.
while honest people may not think it is fair, it is the law.
now she gets one last chance -- do it right, or be stuck for years with the consequences. |

its not fair-but at the time they are not handing out credit like they used to- i would rather be in debt with a plan to get out ,than have a bankruptcy on my credit |

Since when has this world been fair? Think about this we are all throwing and wasting stuff that would save lives or feed whole families, so we are all as guilty as your friend..and we are getting away with it..So is that fair..Your friend has only ripped off some banks..don't get mad get even, you might find it very liberating.. |

Bankrutcy is a chance to begin anew. By being able to get a credit card, she is starting to rebuild her credit. Trust me, she's not getting a "free ride." Bankruptcy is the worst thing you can do with your credit. This can affect her getting a job in the future because some companies run credit checks on potential employees. Don't worry about her.....it's really none of your business. |

Becasue that's what bankruptcy is, a chance to start over. We don't have debtor's prison anymore.
Of course she can apply for credit, getting some may be another story though... |

Because you as a taxpayer paid for her irresponsibility.
Congratulations of your [our] investment in the continued bad financial behavior of the US public. |
