Is this wrong? Is this considered stealing?
Okay so my brother always asks my mom to keep his money in her room somewhere so he doesn't lose it. a couple months back, my mom couldn't find the 70 dollars (my brother's money) she stashed somewhere in her room, so she just paid him 70 dollars of her own money to make up for it. tonight, i just found the money in her old jewlrey box, and i am considering keeping because:
a) the problem is already dealt with and forgotten
b) she was being irresponsible and lost it
c) i REALLY can use the money
ps im 13 years old and saving up for a new camera. if i keep the 70 dollars, i can buy it . . . . . HELP. is that considered stealing? what should i do?
Additional Details
hey i forgot to tell you that no, i wasnt snooping through her stuff, i was looking for these earings. i also wanted to let you know that i talked to my mom, and she's letting me keep the money for coming to her. i still feel guilty though! idk whyy though.

I want my two dollars?

Yes it is. And if you buy the camera with the money... every picture you take with it will be filled with guilt.

It's Not your money.... and what if your mom did lose the money and she's saving up for something else. The next thing your mom running around thinking she losing her mind... or maybe looking into how you came up with the money to buy the new camera.

Yes, it is theft! Tell your mom you found the money and let her decide what to do with her money. Also, what were you doing snooping about in her things? What kind of brat are you?

Yes it is stealing. How is this even a gray area for you?

Do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.

Don't know if you believe in karma or not, but I do. And I believe if you do bad things, bad things come back to you.

Not to mention you must have some little conscience or you wouldn't be on here asking to begin with.

When you tell the truth you never have to worry about guilt or covering up your lies with more lies.

Yes, it's stealing, and you'll be cheating yourself just as much as you'll be cheating your mother. To admit that you found it would show your mother how trustworthy you are, and it would show you that too. Is it worth $70 to keep your integrity intact? You don't want to wrestle with the fact that you are a thief.

I also believe in karma, and karma would say that the $70 will be taken from you in some way with interest.

If you are afraid to tell her that you were going through her things, just put the money back and be satisfied that you did the right thing.

You will feel much more proud of yourself if you earn the money (or even just attract it in an honest way - look up the law of attraction and you'll see what I mean).

I know you'll do the right thing. Best wishes!

Lynn
It is considered stealing. You should tell your mom you found the money. The issue may have been settled between her and your brother when she paid him with her own money, but she is likely still wondering what happened to that money and thinks she will find it eventually.

Pauli
The problem has not been dealt with cause your mother has not found the money. She was not irresponsible you are by keeping it and letting her worry. Have u never ever lost something or misplaced it? Who couldn't really use money? I bet your mother can as well. Stop being selfish and do the right thing, return the money.

Goonhilda
Of course it's stealing. Does the money belong to you? NO. So it's stealing.

Who cares about the camera. If you want to steal from your own parents to buy a camera, you must be a really horrible, selfish person. I am disgusted. Leave the money where it is and earn your own money.

You don't deserve a camera. What if your mother needed that money to buy food or medicine for herself? Leave the money in HER jewellery box where it belongs. Whether or not you can *REALLY* use the money is no issue. It's not yours to use. I'm sure your mother can really use the money too, since it's hers.

Save up your pocket money or earn some money yourself. Don't sponge off others and steal their money. That's a really scummy thing to do.

If you keep the money, you are a thief. Your mom misplaced something and did the responsible thing by paying your brother the money out of her own pocket. She could probably use that $70 and you need to give it back to her. If you just suddenly have enough money for the camera, isn't she going to wonder where it came from?

Just because you really really want the money, doesn't mean you can just take it. The money is not yours just because you found it. You would be stealing the money from your mother.

~Leslie~
Yes it is. You're one bad mama jama. I can't beleive that you did that! You should give the money back. Say that you found it in your room. If your mom finds out, you are going to be in big trouble. I understand that your saving up for a camera. Recycle. You can get lots of money and at the same time you're helping the environment! Please return it! Hope this helped!

Love Her Madly
Yes, it is stealing. The money is not yours, and you are taking it away from the person who is entitled to it (your mother), without her permission.

Let your mom know that you found it, and give it back to her. While you're at it, give her a great big hug, and tell her how much you appreciate everything she has done for you over the years.

The camera is really not very important in the scheme of things.

dane_62
Yes that's stealing. It's stealing from your mother. Because you're asking you know it's stealing you're just looking for justification for doing something you know is wrong.

This camera isn't worth it, you'll feel guilty about keeping this money for a long time. The camera will probably remind you of it even. Earn the camera and it will be even better.

It would be stealing. Just think if you made a human error and miss placed the money your saving and then someone found it and kept it, would you think that they stole from you if they knew it was yours and they found it with your things. Also, your Mother had to replace your brother's money with her own, therefore she has ownership of the money that was somewhat lost. Therefore the easy conclusion is that it isn't your to keep. I bet that the trust and respect that you would gain from your mother for returning the money would be worth more than the $70.00.
