Such a paltry sum, would hardly keep the manor going for 2 years. I suggest you go back into work 'whatever that is'
The working gutter-class are never destined to receive the fruits of life, regardless of a little good fortune. |

Put all but say $25,000 someplace were you can't get at it for a year, then talk to several financial advisers to set your short and long term goals. Many a person have gone through a 1,000,000 in not time at all.
If you do it right your job will be managing your money and spending your time enjoying life. |

Dance around whooping and howling like a banshee and then use your new wealth to settle scores with everyone who's ever upset you. Crush them and grind their puny dreams and ambitions into the dust whilst all the time stroking a white cat and laughing maniacally.
Well, that's what I'd do anyway. |

Always seek professional advice from an experienced financial planner. Check the credentials, experience and fee structure. he will ask dozens of questions about your individual situation, desires, career, sense of philanthropy, etc. and will make appropriate recommendations based on all those things and many, many more.
If you give it to the poor they will just stay poor. If you don't invest wisely it will be gone before you know it. Most folks who aren't used to dealing with wealth lose it almnost as quickly as they receive it.
By all means ask a professional, not a bunch of "yahoos". We're well meaning but, by and large, very naive. If it weren't Saturday I wouldn't have the time to see your question and direct you to someone who knows what they are doing. |

Oh it is a problem, but a good one to have! See a financial advisor but make sure he is an independent financial advisor and not one tied to a bank or insurance company who will try to sell you products from the limited and probably inferior range of financial products available to him. See http://www.unbiased.co.uk/find-an-ifa/ . Take your time and see a few before choosing one you feel comfortable with. I am assuming that you are fairly young as it is inherited from your grandfather and although £1,000,000 is a lot of money in uncertain times it may not last a lifetime if you gave up work, my advice would be to keep working. If you don't particularly like your job you could consider changing to something less lucrative which you would enjoy more. I would advise against spend, spend, spend - a little retail therapy by all means but it really isn't necessary to become an addict to spending, the rewards are transitory in many cases. If you can try to avoid impulse buying and take your time both over considering what you need and researching whether a product meets that need and is good value for money. There can be a lot of satisfaction in avoiding unnecessary expenditure, although it is not something that comes easily to the young. I'm sure your grandfather would be proud of you if you can. |

You should invest it in a tax advantaged account that provides a guaranteed inflation protected return, and live off of the interest. |

WOW! You have stirred up the readers. I hope this is true for you , but somehow I think you're having us on. If I had just inherited £1 million pounds stirling I don't think I would be asking the forum what to do. Depending how old you are I
would consider retiring from work and contacting a financial adviser to help. Anyway if this is true BEST OF LUCK.( As if you need it.) |

If you like working then continue and act as if you didnt have the money, invest in some stocks maybe buy some gold as prices are going up, but a nice home, give some to friends and loved ones.
Donate to charity, make a difference, if you're rich, then you should at least make somethnig of the money, research your rich grandfather and do something in his honor, maybe a statue of him on your estate, and my final idea is... donate some money to a student like me so that I can go to college.. ah well nevermind, I hope this isnt a joke but you can put it in the bank so that your children can have money and live good lives, because the ultimate meaning of life is to LOVE and have FUN... |

you can put it into a bank and watch the miney grow. you can take shares in a business such as Cadbury's if you are old enough (16+). if you do one or all of these your can make a massive amount of money, and not have to work or you can start your own business and make billions.
hope this gives you some ideas

ps will you marry me? please? lol |
