ale961 | Live on $30 for 3 weeks? |
If you had $30 to live on for the next 3 weeks, what kind of groceries would you buy that would last you that long. (I'm asking because this is my situation right now) ? |

I would get a box of chicken and a lot of rice, you'll have money left over! It's good for you too, I eat that now, just because I save every penny! |

Pasta. |

bye bye!

My good man, this is my usual situation
Do you have a Food4Less store?
4 ground turkey rolls (.99 each, near the frozen precooked chicken)
20 Ramen Noodle packets (.10 cents a piece)
(optional) - 1 packet of American/CHeddar cheese (2.50)
(optional) - hot sauce (.60 cents a bottle)
Cook the ground turkey, season to your liking, put it over the ramen noodles, melt a bit of cheese on top..
the above would cost you $9.10 (that should last a week) x 3 = $27.30 |

This sounds like a pretty impossible situation. You'd have to ask bakeries for day old stuff that they're willing to give you for extra cheap or free. I'd also suggest making a big batch of soup and just drinking that as a meal most days. You might want to cut down to 2 or fewer meals per day. Basically bread and soup is all you can afford. Good luck. |

rice, beans, ramen noodles, pasta...anything cheap. |

Ramen noodles... they are filling and dirt cheap. I've seen them on sale 10 packs for $1.00. You could eat 3 ramen noodle packets a day for $6.30, then I would use the rest of the money to buy some ground beef (Costco and other bulk stores usually have it for $1.99 a pound) so for about $10 you could have half a pound of ground beef a day (you could add it to the soup if you wanted). And you really probably need some sort of fruit or veggie in there... Maybe get a bag of apples, and invest in some generic multi-vitamins.
If you're not a fan of ramen, potatoes are cheap and filling...
Also you can buy a generic box of hamburger helper at walmart for less than $1.... but that and one pound of hamburger is $3 and that will put you over budget for that day. Maybe you could make that and divide it into several servings across several days (for dinner perhaps?)
Do you have any current groceries in your pantry? if you already have peanut butter get a loaf of bread. |

Ramen noodles are a life saver. Do you have an Aldi's around you? They are dirt cheap on a lot of stuff. Check out bread stores that sell day old bread really really cheap. Don't buy water like someone suggested, drink tap water. |

I'd sell the computer I'm working on and buy some food. (Unless you're in the library...)
Go for staple foods in bulk like beans and rice. Good luck. |

Ramen noodles and Budget Gourmet frozen dinners (I paid 98 cents each at Wal-Mart last Saturday). Skip all bottled beverages, except a gallon of milk. You can do without beer, pop and bottled water. |

Divide those three weeks into $10.00 a week. Easy, don't buy brand names. Buy the store's brand because they're a little cheaper and same quality as the brand names. For example, I recently bought a loaf of white bread in the store's brand for only .98 cents (Cub Foods brand in Minneapolis, MN where I live) and a cheap brand of peanut butter & jelly together. You can buy a pack of noodles for cheap that will last you for a while. Don't eat things you can live without (ice cream, coffee, soda, chips, junk food, etc.) Just buy water. You don't NEED unneccessary foods, only the ones you need to survive. Try to get maybe one apple, some bananas (bananas aren't that expensive), cereal, milk, etc. You can buy some veggies if you want. Try to live within your means and by $10.00 a week. You can do it. If I can, you can. I have to live that way even right now. Oh yeah, you can get some pretty cheap frozen pizzas and dinners for only about $1.00-$2.50 each. Banquet has cheap frozen entrees for only $1.00 each. Hope this helps a little and remember that everyone has to suffer every once in a while and that's ok. You'll be ok. |

Top Rammon, just add boiling water. Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. You will need milk and butter for the Mac & Cheese.
Inexpensive vegetables like carrots and celery.
Good luck |

Wow, I can't believe an above poster actually recommended that you spend money on BOTTLED WATER . . wtf? Water is free.
A giant bag of beans and a giant bag of rice will feed one person for a month and costs less than $10. It's not bad, especially if you add onion or onion powder, hot sauce, and other seasonings. That leaves you over $20 to supplement with bananas or other cheap fruit and any sale veggies. |
