Look into New Zealand. Difficult to get permanent residency, but well worth it. The people are very friendly and welcoming (just like the Aussies). Weather is generally good in most areas. Lots of recreational activities (especially on the water). And, cheap wine!

SAME HERE IM FRUM BELIZE
and so r my parents
my mom is going back when she retires too
and so am i
=]
wonderful decision

If you want a retirement full of sunshine, nice beaches, beautiful rainforest, come to the state of Queensland in Australia.

leopardstripes
Costa Rica, Belize, both are great choices....have you considered the Netherlands? I would also suggest any of the Scandinavian countries, Sweden in particular. (My husband says, "Australia, or, for that matter, Canada!") Have a wonderful, peaceful retirement! :)

bilbobagsend
go where your heart is i love Australia there are a lot of thing i dont like but overall wouldn't move

Be Here Now.
Belize is a good one. My Dad retired at 48 and is now living the life fantastic in Gdansk, Poland. He is a short ferry ride away from Sweden and Germany.

Also, he's about to switch over to the Euro. He's laughing all the way to the bank while all of his comrades are slaving away here for another decade or more.

NOTE:

I wanted to make a couple of cautions against people's recommendations. First, Ireland. Not a good choice. The economy is sky-rocketing and the country is becoming one of the wealthiest in the world. Your savings and pension won't serve you well there.

Next, Sweden. For the exact same reasons as above. If you want to live like a king then it must be S. America or Eastern Europe.

I'm considering Costa Rica

I plan to do exactly the same, I love the US but I want to retire and take it easy somewhere else.
I'm heading to Asia, or some South American Country.
See you there in about 45 yrs...

Bill
Just retired two years ago and was thinking of Ireland as I have dual citizenship or Brasil. One country speaks English the other portuguese. You can get a retirement visa for Brasil if you make $2,000.00 or more a month on the pension. Been there 8 times and loved it. Right now the dollar is worth around .64 cents against the Euro. Not a good exchange. Might be better against the Real in Brasil. The weathers a little better in "Thongaland" than Ireland. The woman sure are beeutiful, but then all woman are beeyouteefull

cant say you're wrong on this......

Costa Rica has best medical in Central America. You'll want that as Medicare pays zip, zot, nada, nothing for treatment outside the US.

Stable politics and no army as well.

Quantum Incarnation
i would move to Denmark but I cannot afford to leave town. i've wanted to leave this country for about 27 years.

It depends on your background, your interests, and your needs. There are many countries in which you can live in luxury on US social security. Most of the Balkan countries, some Central and South American, India, and many others. Belize may be a goo choice for you. Only you can decide. I'm partial to Florida.

There are some very nice communities in Mexico, close to San Diego. There you could have the best of both worlds.
Worth looking into and cost effective....
Just a suggestion.

If you can gain citizenship I would suggest a country like Britain or France. I know what your thinking but stop and think about the long term. Now that your retired you will have a limited income, every penny counts! These countries have free or low cost health care, and as we grow older we tend to need more medical care. 50% of bankruptcies are due to medical bills. This is a fantastic idea and I would suggest researching everything about the place before making the jump. Sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side. Take it from me, I dropped over 100k USD on a move, then turned right around a year later. Well, lesson learned. I wish you happiness no matter what you choose, and if it's not to much to ask... can you drink a tall one for me!

I agree with you. This country is becoming soft and politically correct.

You can head down to Mexico. Things are cheap down there and everyone is moving North, so there is plenty of property opening up.

Hit the road. We won't miss you. You think it's better elsewhere? Don't fool yourself. It's not.

As much as I agree that the US has it's issues, I am ALWAYS glad to come back home when I leave for a while.
