Poor you. I guess there are so many people facing this problem right now. People have already said it here, the most important thing is to pre-empt things by talking through the situation with your lender. What makes them agressive is any lack of communication. At the present time they're so busy chasing people who are trying to avoid them that they will not spend time hassling those who keep them in the picture, and will be happy to negotiate a temporary solution. Their resources are stretched already with the credit fiasco, so if a customer appears to be cooperating and willing to discuss their situation they will be generally handled with some compassion. I really wish you the best, and the same to the many others in your shoes. |

Citizens Advise Bureau ..('CAB')
Get your partner down the Job Center immediately & register for JSA etc. (they do NOT backdate payments .. get in now or loose out) and find out about help with Mortgage Payments .. also reduced Council Tax ..
You need to put together some sort of 'plan' eg 'I will rent out a room' (or two) that will bring in enough to pay the mortgage / loan and then contact your lenders ASAP and advise them .. the Mortage Co. may be willing to accept reduced payments (aka 'interest only'), however this is typically limited to 6 months max.
If they say they won't reduce your payments, do NOT just 'stop' paying anything .. pay what you can, even if it's not the full amount (this should stop them repossessing your house) |

Contact Citizen's Advice asap...plus: Notify your mortgage company/debt manager that you may well have problems..early notification is essential. It is possible they can help...if they feel you are keeping them in the know. |

im so sorry to hear about this. not doubt you are desperately worried. First thing is first. go to citizens advice to find out what you are entitled to (job-seekers allowance, tax credits etc) then you will be able to work out how much you will be getting a month. The next step would be to go to your lender and explain your circumstances...maybe they or you could suggest a re-payment holiday. Its best to approach your lenders, if you know you cant afford to meet your payments. These companies often help you with the little 'blips' like losing your income as they know in most cases this isnt a permament situation. In the meantime all you can do is search for another job...i wish you all the luck in the world :) |

First thing you must do is contact the people you owe the money to and ask them to stop the interest, or at least re-negotiate payment terms. They know that some money back is better than none so are usually more than happy to do this.
Go through all you incomings and outgoings and work out what you can pay each month and take it from there. |

Hi, it would seem that you have been given some very good advice here so there's no need for me to put my twopenneth in except to say that it is no use trying to re-posses your house to re-pay the loan when it's virtually impossible to sell, so make an appointment to see the loan manager. |

You need to sit down and do a written budget today.
Paying for food, utilities and home are the first priorities. After that you can assess what the balance of monetary needs are.
Then you need to look at the income side of the equation. What can you sell? Extra car? Yard/garage sale? Ebay?
Your partner can potentially pick up some extra money doing temp work or delivering pizzas or something.
If you can get the momentary crisis under control you need to get your financial house in order. Nobody should be one week or one month between losing a job and missing house payments.

Yes you must keep in touch with them and offer them something. Are you still paying unsecured personal loans or credit cards? Do you know if you took them out before 1 April 2007 you may be able to get them cancelled? Get help at the website. |
