i live in texas, and the legal age to work in a store is 16.
I cant babysit; I have no neighbors with little kids, and I dont want to mow lawns. Is there anything else that I can do? Are there any stores that let you work at age 14?

Deliver newspapers, walk dogs, tutor younger kids if you are good at a subject in school, sell baked goods, iron clothes for people, do errands for people, pet-sit, bus tables, do party cleanup, wash and wax cars, put out flyers offering to help with home improvement projects, wash windows in town for businesses, get groceries for elderly people ....
Example: One girl I knew set up a bakery delivery service - she baked and delivered fresh bread and baked goods (even birthday cakes) around the neighborhood and made decent money. Make sure not to undercharge.
Idea: Offer to help before, during and after parties. Keep things neat, food out, get drinks for people (not alcohol), take coats, entertain kids, keep music going, whatever help is needed. Then, help clean up later.
Make up nice flyers and distribute them around your neighborhood. Keep letters of recommendation in a file to show people.

you can walk dogs, dogsit, get a paper route, maybe do farm work if you live in a rural area? do other yard work like raking and stuff if you don't want to mow. put mulch on landscaping. |

talk to your school's counselor because you will need a work permit under 18. they often know who can hire you. consider your own business. you can find library books like "Fast Cash for Kids" by Bonnie & Noel Drew. There are many titles like it that can give inspiration and motivation. There are teens and tweens making serious cash... will YOU be one of them??? Don't wait for your ship to come in ... Swim out to meet it. |

I think it is very responsible of you at 14 to want to earn money. Many adults in life don't want to work so I commend you for that. Unfortunately, there is not a lot out there at your age for work. The only things you would be able to do are "side jobs" like you mention mowing lawns, babysitting, walking dogs, or maybe even running errands for people. Good luck!! |
