Married People: How often do you talk about money?
On average, how many hours do you think you talk to your spouse about money? When you talk about money, are you arguing, planning for the future, etc.?

We talk as it occurs. Its extremely important to communicate. Also we both have a household checking account. When I use it I communicate to my partner, cause he/she can check off the money being spent visa versa too. It's never been an issue in our house to argue over money. Purchases that are big and done for the house , are being taken care of by both of us. We also have a saving account that we both put money into. So we will be able to purchase what we want .

Every month-end my spouse and I review our income and expenses for the previous month, and our net worth at the previous month-end, focusing on anything that is out of the ordinary and comparing our net worth to 1 year ago and 5 years ago. It takes maybe 30 minutes to do.

When we have non-routine financial decisions to make (large purchases, changes in income, unexpected expenses, windfall income) we might take 1 to 2 hours to discuss how to deal with it. This happens maybe 3 times per year.

every damn day. about how we don't have it & how we need it

rachael_in_minnesota
Every day. Probably for a total of an hour a day or so. We do argue, but we plan alot too. Usually if we argue it's because one of us wants to blow money on something totally unnecessary, which we do far too much.

EVERYDAY!.. We try not to argue, but disagree alot. I'm more the one who thinks about saving money by investing etc... My Hubby is "old-fashioned" he still thinks putting the money under the mattress is good enough!...

Hey I married an Italian what can I do!

its something that has to be talked about, but generally my husband and i argue about it all the time an hour or so a day.

christina_m_taft
We used to talk about it all the time, not really argue, but definately debate. Now, we have our money separated into his money, my money, and our money, which is just for bills and household expenses. Once a week, at payday, I give him a quick heads-up of our financial standings. We both know how much the other gets for "personal spending or savings" and since it doesn't affect the household stuff, we can refrain from nagging or seeming too nosy about the pennies each other spends.

Money conversations take up almost all our waking hours. We have to live paycheck to paycheck and it is hard to pay bills and be able to try and maintain a modest lifestyle. We have recently opened a small flea market business in order to bring in a little extra money.

Spoiled
Maybe a half hour every day at the most. We discuss what bills need to be paid and if they are any major purchases that we need to make in the future that we need to save for. Neither of us like to carry high balances on credit cards, and we only own two credit cards between the the two of us - one credit card for unexpected emergencies, and on credit card for our business. We have a joint checking account, a savings account, and a business checking account for the business that we own. We rarely argue about money, as we both have the same basic ideas on how to manage money, and we both have the same goals that we are working and saving toward for the future.

We talk about money generally everyday. Mostly on Thursday (payday). I wouldn't say we argue over money - because there's usually nothing to argue about (ha-ha) because we're socking everything away for the future; i.e.: children's college, our future dream cabin, etc.

everyday about 15 minutes to an hour. we are usually planning our immediate future. we rarely argue about it.

It would depend on whether money is tight I imagine. If there isnt much money to spare or if one (or both) overspend it will be a source of tension. If you live within your means money is only discussed for investment purposes.

We talk about planning for the future, current expenses. Never argue about it, as I married someone with the same ideals I have about how to correclty manage money.

About once a week we discuss what bills are do-I'm not married, I live with my boyfriend. In two years we only argued once about money.

Mamma Mia
My husband and I don't talk about money very often. We chose for me to be a stay-at-home mom so we live off his pay check. I trust him completely with the money and the bills. I get an allowance each week to spend on whatever I wish. We do talk about money when it comes time to making long term goals.... paying off the house, planning for our kids college, buying a car.
