my partner works for HBOS(Halifax Bank Of Scotland) & he says the press are doing what they do best - scaremongering!yes of course its an uncertain time but its as safe as anything else!we have all our financial products with them & have no concerns - especially if there is possibility of a takeover...and one more thing - to all those insensitive people who go into a HBOS branch and wind up staff about losing their job - give them a break - this is their livelihood we are talking about - have a bit of sensitivity - they are trying to do their jobs the best they can under very stressful & uncertain terms!!!!(sorry for my rant but we are a bit stressed here at home!) ;-) And also think about what you are doing - if you take all your money out of a bank naturally you are taking away their capital & business which isnt really going to help them out in the long run is it!?
Michael from UK
Yes - the money is guaranteed to be safe - as it was in Northern Rock. The government cant afford for people to get worried again. It's perfectly safe.

The rich kids who work in the city spreading rumours, the press causing panic and the customers clambering for their money caused this problem and now 40,000 people could loose their jobs.
The money in HBOS is every bit as safe today as it was a week ago before anyone had even heard of their crisis.

So have I and I hope it's safe.
Madam Rosmerta
Yes - safer than in any other bank. Due to the buy out you can be pretty comfortable in the thoughts that it is safe. Everything else however.....
Anil K
YES IT IS MUCH SAFER COMPARED TO OTHER BANKS
Michael W
Yes but only up to £35,000 in total for money held in any accounts with Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Lloyds

Yes yes yes.

Well they are merging with Lloyds TSB by the looks of things so you should be fine. There are recommendations to all bankers not to have £35000 (pounds) in any one bank account. The reason is unsure but money might be lost because of the financial crisis caused by some big banks failing. Barclays did invest in Lehman Bank late last night though.
jimi_valerie
yes. even if they close down your moneys protected by a government service the FSA, and as long as you've under 33,000 in the bank you'll get all if not most of it back.
