Mommsie | Money is just not here.? |
When my husband and I found out that I was pregnant with our first child, I quit college to support him through. He is now graduated we have two kids and I am going back to school. We live in a small town with few jobs. So he doesn't earn much. We have a credit card maxed that we are trying to pay of and close, student loans, car loan on a used mini van, the list just keeps going. I am not able to work because of daycare issues (being we couldn't pay for it if I did work). I can't live like this anymore. What do we do? |

Learn to have faith in God. He clothes the Sparrow of the field......how much more precious are you to him?
I know its hard. I have two little ones. My wife doesn't work and I work a 100% commission job in a very volatile job field. But every month we somehow scrape by.
Keep your head up. Where is your family? Where are your friends? Where is your church? Do they know about your struggles? |

Life is hard. There are other places where work is more plentiful. That IS the American way or capitalism. Workers will go to where the jobs are. So my advice to you would be to move to where their is work for your husband and you should work in a daycare. This way you will get insurance, earn money, and take care of the children. A lot of churches have them. |

You might consider doing what other young couples do who live in small towns with no opportunities.... relocate where your husband can find a better job and where you can also get a decent job after you finish school. I grew up in a small town. I loved it there when I was in my teens, but I knew I would never make a decent wage living there. After I finished the university, I moved to a large city.... and it was the best move I made financially. |

keep in mind that there is many ways to solve problems and that diligence can pay off. here is some possible solutions:
1)move to a cheaper place to live with more jobs- ie an area with more oppurtunity.
2) ask family to baby sit so you can work. two incomes is better than one.
3) pay off your credit cards as fast as you can. live strapped untill they are paid off. interest will not go away on its own. possibly get a loan at a better rate to pay it off.
4) possiblly consolidate the entire debt
5) bankrupcty, its an organized method of giving breathing room and allowing you to payoff your creditors.
6) seek different types of employment to get more pay. husband takes on second job. you take on a second job ( find a baby sitter).
Finally, life is tough for everyone. It may seem unbearable, but there is no part of life that is easy. Even the rich and famous must worry and stress out. Although there problems are not the same, problems are everywhere. My parents came to America with only a suit case in there hands. They used that suit case as a seat and ate off of boxes in their apartment. When we were growing up, all my clothes were hand me downs. Life is difficult, but you should know that your life is in your hands and you should push forward as hard as you can because hard work will make you strong and rewards will follow. |

Maybe do some childcare out of your house?
Do you have any specials skills - for example, I used to work in an attorney's office (before I had kids) and we used this program to do billing. Well after I had kids I left my job and we moved to Florida. After settling in, I made up a letter offering billing services and mailed it to alot of attorneys in the area. I got a few phone calls and am currently doing billing for 2 attorneys out of my home. And one of them lets me work extra hours in his office when my husbands schedule allows. Maybe something like that? He also has a cleaning lady that comes in 3 times a week that he pays pretty well also.
Good luck! |

Try selling stuff on eBay for extra income just to get you by for now.
Also look towards moving to a location where the job market is better, but research this and plan well before you go anywhere. |

Just keep working through it...and be happy that you aren't working through it alone, at least you have the love of your children and the support of your husband who is in the same situation as you. Just remember theres no situation that you can't get out of, take everything one day at a time and don't feel hopeless. |

First of all, I completely know how you feel. I am a mother of 2 and my husband and I struggle just like you. But, I decided that I didn't want to live like that anymore and am working on getting us out of debt. One of the things that I have done is start listening to Dave Ramsey. He is wonderful for advice on getting out of debt. He has been broke, so he knows what it feels like. Check out his site.
Second, I work full time and am home with the kids at night since my husband works mostly nights. I wanted to find something that I could do from home a couple of hours a night that would bring in some money to help us out. I have found a way to do just that. Check out my blog on how to make money staying at home. If it works for me, I know it will work for you. I only work online after the kids go to bed, and I work only a couple of hours. Good luck to you and know that it will get better if you work together and get on a plan.

Learn how money works. Find a "Financial Peace University" class near you (www.daveramsey.com) and go through the class. Ask for financial assistance for the tuition (and prove that you need it). It will only be until you gain the knowledge you need to change your life and then implement changes in your behavior that you will start winning. I wish you all the best. |

1. Get the pill, no more kids. God won't provide for you.
2. Don't take financial advice, if you have to pay for it
3. Maybe, you have to set your standard of living lower for a while, until you pay of your debt. If you don't see an end to paying it of, look into bankruptcy.
4. Cut up every single credit card you own, quick.
It's going to be hard, maybe you have to move into a cheaper neighborhood for a while. Don't be ashamed, that's the biggest mistake. |

Talk to a financial councilor. The HUD website lists credit counciling agencies (nonprofits) that can help.
I had 3 young kids, married, school issues, loans, ect...I know what you're going through. Make paying off your credit cards a priority, and STOP using them immediately. If you have leftover student loan $$, use that to pay them off (the interest rate is more forgiving).
Be creative about your finances. We FINALLY got a van four months ago because we were able to pay with cash (refund check came!). Move in with a relative if you have to. Don't be proud, and take hand me downs for whatever you can!! You won't believe what people give you when they hear you need it--we've gotten furniture, washer, dryer, lawn furniture, cars, ect...yes, up until we got our van, we drove a 1978 Chevy. You MUST be creative if your resources are limited.
Good luck! |
