I am not sure if its too late to register at local non profit organizations, but you could ask them if they could help you out with some presents for your child(ren)
Happy Holidays! |

dont get a loan or any of that also do not spend more than you can.
many of us have money difficulties this time of year, but we keep on keeping on. dont let the corporate world influence what christmas should be about.
enjoy each others company and appreciate eachother thats all that matters |

Getting a loan or buying stuff from a catalogue won't help you at all. Chriistmas is soon over, but do you really want to be paying for it for the next six months. All this is doing is adding to your existing debt.
Talk frankly and truthfully to your partner about the money situation. Unless you live within your income over the christmas period, you'll be making things worse longer term for you and your family.
Buying smaller presents and making less of a deal of christmas day might not be your idea of fun, but better that than long term debt. |

Is there anyway you can earn extra cash? A second job maybe - lots of people hire seasonally. What about odd jobs? Raking leaves, cleaning houses, basically anything you are willing to do that someone might pay you for.
Also, remember it doesn't take money to make Christmas special. Growing up I never got all the "stuff" my friends did cause my parents were careful with money. But I grew up normal, with lots of love, and I learned a valuable lesson from my parents about money and love. |

Definitely don't take out a loan for Christmas. Christmas is about spending time with friends/family and having a great time, you do what you can for people and everyone understands that. It's a rough time for a lot of people, especially with these gas prices!! Just do what you can, it's the THOUGHT that counts, not how much you spend, put a lot of thought into everyone's gift, make it personal, show them that you pay attention to them, and know who they are, make gifts/cards if you have to. Don't worry, it'll still be a perfect time! Good luck :) |

When we're down on money and Christmas comes around, we (my pseudo husband and me) make it a point to get gifts for only our son. We're adults. We understand that money is short, and we don't need gifts for each other.
Have a garage sell, or sell things on Craigslist. It's free. Ask for more hours at your part time job. A lot of companies understand wanting to work more, so you can provide for your family during the holidays. Definitely don't get a loan. Why do you want make your situation worse? Tell your families not to buy you or your partner anything, but instead, if they were going to give gifts, to give to your daughter.
You're asking for help, but sorry to say, seems like you want the easy way out. I don't mean to be insensitive, but the holidays are about family, and when there are kids around, it's about them getting gifts, not you or your partner. Ask for more hours at work. It all takes a little sacrifice. |

what about doing a secret santa with your family then everyone only has to buy one gift a lot cheaper and a lot more fun - you could put a limit on the amount spent. As for your daughter Ebay is best and christmas is not about the gifts its about the thought that goes into them. |

A good gift that will have a minimum cost would be giving a picture in a nice frame. Go through all your old photos and find special photos of you and your daughter and partner and get them copied or scanned. You can then get a nice small 4x6 or 5x7 frame at a local hobby store for around $6. |

hi
lots of us in simialr straits, u are not alone.
try making things fr gifts eg lavender bags/sachets, woolly scarf/gloves, candles. Gifts that you have made are so much more appreciated. If you have any needlecraft skills then make use of it to make little gifts by yrself. You can get all the basic materials from local fabric shops quite cheaply. Make good use of yr local pound/dollar shops.
all the best and do not get into the loans cycle as it makes things so much worse for anyone. |

I can appreciate your situation but for goodness sake steer well away from catalogues, the interest rates are horrendous! They are worse than credit cards, concentrate on whats important, you and yours. If you must borrow then go to the bank and explain honestly your situation and as responsible lenders (which they have to be by law) they will advise you on how much you can sensibly borrow. Above all keep it within what you can afford, I know. I borrowed to much a few years ago and it took me a long while to get rid of it.
Good luck and have a good Christmas. |

People don't need STUFF to be happy and know you love them.
This would be a wonderful lesson for your daughter to learn early. You do what you can and you're grateful for that. |

i have been where you are and it wasnt until i landed myself in LOTS of debt did i realize that spending all this money on people who to be fair wouldnt want you to get yourself in debt for them is not worth it! it may feel like its worth it on the day but 6 months later when your struggling to pay it off and they have gone on to somethign new. just spend what you can. your partner should be able to appreciate your situation so just give him 'coupons' like 'one night in just the 2 of you', 'one special cooked meal', 'one massage' etc. for your daughter spend what you can but this is the time to show her that christmas isnt about presents. spend time with her during the lead up. make paper chains, gingerbread men etc. for the rest of the family do what i did last year. bake them or make them stuff. jam, cookies, scones...make a little of everythign and make them into hampers..ppl love them. this year i sold ALOT of my stuff on ebay to pay for xmas so try that to! |
