you can open an IRA account at a credit union or where you bank. An IRA is an Investment savings plan for people who do not have a 401K or have a 401K from a previous employer. A 401K is a pre-taxed savings plan, which means part of your salary is taken into the 401K tax free - so if you put into your IRA that money has already been taxed because it is part of your take home net pay.

You can put a set amount in there each payday, but be continuous with it, and you will earn interest over the years. You cannot take from your IRA without being taxed heavily... so what you put in there dont plan on taking it out until you retire!!!

Wondering
You can open one on your own for yourself at your bank.

You may open a roth or traditional IRA for you and for your spouse to allow you more saving in a year. Regardless wether your spouse is working or not.

I would open a roth ira... You have more options when it comes to investing and you will never pay taxes on your earnings if you wait till you are 59 1/2... Good luck
