I looked at my online account this morning, and i had money direct deposited into my account. I went to use my atm card to withdrawal money and it denied my transaction. I went home to check my balance, and it said i have money in my account...but the deposit is pending. why and for how long till i can use my card? |

You did say direct deposit. I work in a bank and we never hold funds from a direct deposit because there is no risk of the deposit being rejected. It's not like a check deposit where the funds may need to be verified. We always make your direct deposit immediately available for withdrawal from the ATM machine, even if the deposit is pending or memo posted.
I can think of only two exceptions where I work. If the account was overdrawn prior to the direct deposit we may put a block on the ATM card. If that is the case, it may take 24 hours for the overdraft block to fall off or it may have to removed manually. You may want to look into that.
It may also be that your debit card has enough transactions pending that your available balance will soon be depleted by your recent debit card activity. In other words, it may not show now, but your have used your card recently and it will deplete your current balance including the pending deposit.
If either of these situations don't seem to fit the bill, than your bank is likely holding the funds. Checks are not guaranteed funds but direct deposit is. Holding your direct deposit is unjustifiable and if they are, you can do better. |

Call your bank. This happened to me once and I called to find out that my bank failed to tell me that due to a scam they canceled the card that I had and were sending me a new one. Real nice, huh? The woman on the phone definitely got a mouthful from me in telling her how it would have been nice to get notification of my card being renewed due to a company I used it at having check scams!! |

how much are you trying to withdraw? it has been be in 20, 40, 60 or 100
Ie you cant NOT withdraw say $25.00 nor 30, etc could that be reason?
is the ATM you using YOUR
own bank ATM or is it another banks ATM then you have services fees
attached to that withdraw
an way around is try to get to a supermarket buy something small
(gum etc ) ask for cash back then you can get your cash that way too)

For most deposits of anything other than cash, a hold is put on the amount and you can't use it for up to a few days. This is standard among banks. They are waiting to be sure the check you deposited is good. Sometimes if you are a good customer they'll release the hold if you ask, but not always or even usually. Doesn't hurt to ask, though |

depends how long ago you deposited the money. usually it takes a couple of days for it to clear completely, so just try again in a couple of days.
or it could be that you have a withdrawal limit for a period of time and you wont be able to withdraw anything no matter how much money you have.
you should ask whoever is managing the account, and if its you, then wait a couple of days, and if you still cant, talk to the bank |
