If they don't budge, try the 'Ok,I'll withdraw all my money and close my account then' routine. You may be pleasantly surprised by their co-operation then.I've used it before and it has always worked for when they p... me off. |

Why don't you make a deposit in to your bank using on of the envelope things that go into the machine. Put about £40 in there maybe they won't relise. If the query it get them to prove that it came from you. Hope you understand what i am trying to say. |

if i was you id go to the police and report them for issuing a dud note. It is a criminal offence and they would do the same to you. Then i would consider going to the paper and exposing them as the money grabbing hypocritcal prats they are.... |

Not a lot unfortunately its down to whether the bank believe you or not. You could write to their customer concerns dept with a complete statement of how you obtained the note and what and where you went after to show it couldn't come from anywhere else. It is illegal to pass a forged note whether its done by a bank, shop, deliberately by the forger or innocently by you so would not try getting rid of it to another innocent party can get into real problems with the police if your caught. If they still wont refund then as said above can threaten to close your account and take the note to the local police station to hand in can give them the details of the bank. Good luck |

Can you prove it came from the bank? You cannot expect the bank to accept the matter as true, just because you say so.
On the other hand, if you try passing it onto them enough times, it may get passed! |

This happened to me once while i was holidaying in Ireland. Without knowing, i paid part of a bill in the hotel that i was staying at with a dodgy 20 and a couple of hours later, received a knock at the door by the Garda. Anyway, to cut a long story short, they eventually believed me as i think they had other complaints and had traced it back to a certain bank, of which i was later told (by this bank) that I'd have to prove it was them. An impossibility i may add. So my advice to you, would be go with, antanddo... answer. Good luck. |

I remember my sister was given a bogus $100 bill while trying to help this lady break it at a gas station. I think she went and deposited the bill into her bank account and never heard of it again.

I'm quite amased that the bank has issued you this note. I believe the cashier has committed a faux pas. First of all, they are trained to distinguish counterfeit notes just by touching it. Also what worries me is that they allowed you to walk away with it. As a general rule, they must retain the note and send it to the Bank of England. All they can do is issue you a receipt stating that they have confiscated the counterfeit note.
Also check the Bank of England website. As all notes issued have a corresponding value of reserves in the Central Bank.
Try and report this incident and maybe they may investigate and even reimburse you with that £10. Although the latter I'm not so sure. |

I had some dud twenty's from the bank once...I only noticed when I fanned them all out and some looked different to others. The bank would not accept that they had handed out dud money, but they did...I had not BEEN anywhere else! |
