My bank just charged me for a failed Standing Order?
Hi, my bank charged me £25 for a standing order that was not sent out. I admit, I did make a mistake entering the date - it should have been 2 days later, but regardless, they charged me £25 for a service they did not make. I had to re-do my standing order for it to work. Can I try and reclaim this fee?
Additional Details
Let me just add that I did not go over-drawn, as they never paid the money. All they did was take £25 out my account.
If they had paid the money, I would have been more than happy to pay the £25 - but they did not.

You can ring up the bank, and advise them that you aware that you can claim your bank charges back through the courts, but would rather save everyone time and have the bank reverse it. Be firm but polite, and if its the first time you have asked them to do this, they probably will.

Its not honestly worth going down the full claims process for £25, but if you have more bank charges from any time in the last 6 years, you could claim these back as well.

My site below has detailed step by step guides to claiming back all your charges for the last 6 years, with template letters to put your own details into and send to the bank. There is also the latest news and developments from the fight against bank charges, and forums for one to one help and support during your claim.

The site has helped people claim many thousands back from a range of banks and building societies themselves!

The site is completely free to use!

You can claim it back, but it takes ages. but by law a penalty charge should be proportionate to the banks administration, and it dont cost £25 to send you a letter to tell you your over drawn. check out this site for more info http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6169539.stm

It even gives you a legal letter to send them

It is quite simple, tell them you want the money back because the £25 charge is illegal. It exceeds the cost to the bank for refusing a payment. Don't be fobbed off. If they refuse in your branch, write to the head office. I have always got my money back within 2 days.
You made a mistake, so what, we all do including banks!. If they make a mistake on your account, send them a letter demanding £25. My bank entered my date of birth incorrectly. It took me a few phone calls to sort it out. I asked for £50 for phone calls and costs. They paid up.

Reclaim your £25 back then cancel your Bank.

Yep you can get it back. There is a growing revolt about these 'money grabbing B*******S' - sorry banks, as basically they are charging far too much for these type of errors. This has been backed up in the courts.

1st off, go and have a chat with them and ask them politely if they will right off the charge as it was an error - they know that they are on the back foot as they are caving in all the time.

If not, ask them the procedure on claiming back unfair bank charges - They will then try and fob you off with all kinds of crud 'its not possible' 'we will charge you for it' 'Our charges are fair' 'The news is wrong, people are not getting refunded'

THEN go on-line and look up sites on how to claim your cash back. Consumer sites, banking ombudsman etc In a nutshell you can claim back for 6 years AND even reclaim interest on this amount. many sites will even have template letters that you can use.

Also TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY about this procedure as they can benifit from it too.

Banks have been doing people over for years on this issues and now people are able to get their money back.

Good luck !!!!

Go to the bank and ask to see the bank manager or supervisor. Don't just let it drop. If you look as if you are prepared to fight it theres a good chance that they will just refund the charge without any hassel. Its well worth a try.

No, because it was your mistake!

jim
No. That's just one way banks make money.
