My expenses are higher than my income, what do I do?
I can't get rid of any of my expenses, all are bare minimums and I am in a situation where I cannot get another job to earn more income. What can I do?

Expenses:
Rent-if I don't pay I'll be homeless w/ my daughter
Daycare-if I don't pay I don't go to work
Car-if I don't pay it will get reposessed
Car Insurance-if I don't pay my car will get reposessed, possible tickets from police
Phone-have to have in case of emergency, have contract with large fee to terminate
Electricity-I am applying for heat share this year
Food-we gotta eat
Gas-need for car for work
Diapers-working on potty training, but still need
Household Needs-self explanitory

I always get overdraft fees because I have more expenses than what I earn and keep getting further behind.

No help from family, friends and relatives. Help?

I am to in your same situation, I make 16.00 an hour and things from my past keep poping up that are making it harder and harder, I work a part time job for extra money and have cut my cell phone down to the absolute minumim that I can without having to break my contract. There are places that you can probably get help as far as the daycare and those expenses, call your local SRS office and find out what they can tell you as far as making more money please email me and I can try to help with something that doens't cost any money ever and you can make a few extra hundred dollars a month for about 5-10 minutes a day! I wish you the best of luck with everything and hope that you will keep your head up and you will get though this! Best of Luck Hope to hear from you!

Can you get a room mate? That would cut your rent in half, and they could share with the household needs as well. Can you trade in your car for something less expensive? Maybe the payments would come down a bit. Can you use cloth diapers instead of disposable? Yes, you have to wash them out but they're reusable and much less expensive. Can you share a ride to work? Maybe take turns driving so you can cut your gas in half? Have you applied for any kind of single mother help? Are you using coupons to grocery shop? Have you hit the dollar store for some of your stuff? Can you get a less expensive phone contract? Can you get a cheaper car insurance? Is there anything you have that you can sell on eBay or at a rummage sale? Have you donated blood or bone marrow for money? There are a ton of ways to cut back - down to only flushing the toilet when there's something 'solid' in there. Gross, maybe, but it does save money.

Do you have public transportation?
If you do, sell the car. You remove car payment, gas, and insurance. Or if you want the car, take it off the road, remove insurance but still use public transportation.
As far as a phone goes, get rid of when you can and get a standard house phone. If you have an emergency, all companies are required by law to have the 911 line open no matter what. When was the last time you asked for a raise?

Barney R
How much are your car payments?
Sell the car and buy a something cheap with no payments.
If you are upside down on the car, you still need to sell it.
Phone: Go with pay as you go, no contract. If your phone has a cancellation fee, you are still up if you talk to them about monthly payments on it.
Could your child come with delivering pizzas?
You can't keep spending more than you make!

Been in this situation plenty of times before! I would suggest looking for a better job. Find something that pays more, even if its something that you not really happy about doing and its legal. Find a cheaper daycare provider and car insurance. Try refinancing your car. Something else that worked for me was paying everything in pieces with my bi monthly paycheck. Those bank fees can really put you in a jam. When I went to the grocery store I purchased the store brand products. They have the same ingredience as the name brand items.

I hope this helps you. Good Luck!

You probably make too much money for any agency to help with any official assistance.

However, that doesn't mean you couldn't visit the local food banks. If you're going to do so, you should do it early in the month (because the end of the month is when those on public assistance have run out of money and go in search of those resources.)

Even if you don't want to go to the food banks, you could check into the local food SHARE programs. Basically, they require that you volunteer in the warehouse for so many hours per week (helping to divide the food they have) and you're eligible to buy a box full of nutrious foods (usually including fresh vegetables and meats) at a greatly reduced cost. It's also potentially a good way to meet some nice people who may be in a similar situation. (And if you were able to trade off child care once in awhile, that might not be a bad thing!)

I also think you should consider ditching the car and going with public transportation, or buying a cheaper car. Between the insurance (which you imply is full coverage by necessity, further implying that the car is also financed) and the car payment, these two can eat up a significant portion of your income in a hurry.

You should also check into your witholdings at work. Did you get back a hefty tax refund this year? If so, then you're really having too much tax witheld from your paycheck and you could use that money in your monthly budget. If you're single and only listing 2 dependents for the witholdings, you may want to list 3 since you should also be eligible to file as the head of household. (Do some checking on this; you don't want to mess up and end up having to pay MORE next April, but it's something to consider!)

As far as daycare, that alone is probably eating up a significant portion of your income. You don't say who is providing the daycare, but there are sometimes local social service agencies that can refer you to reduced-cost programs based on income.

Keep in mind, though, by most standards, your income isn't lacking (at least, not as far as the government is concerned.)

You might also try reading some articles on the Dollar Stretcher web site: http://www.stretcher.com

Check with social service to see if they can help you out with other expenses such as food stamp for food and they might be able to give some aid for your child as well. A little things can add up...try to make a round trip when you are out for your errant instead of taking different trips. I work too and have to pay day care too so I do understand the neccessary expenses for everyday life and needs. If you have 2 phones like most of us these day - think about get rid of the home phone since you work and your child is in daycare, that's 1 of the expense can be cut out too. But definitely go to social service for assistant. Best wishes.

If you can't make it on 14.00 an hour, then you're spending way more than you need to somewhere. That's 2,240 a month and 26,880 a year.

I suspect you could lower your standard of living a bit.

When your contract is up for the phone, get rid of it... The Amish are living proof that a phone IS NOT needed even for emergencies !!!

Get rid of any car that you make payments on and you can then decrease insurance to liability.

If you have computer, sell it, it IS NOT NEEDED !!

Cut back on any makeup you wear, stop smoking & drinking if you do either of those.

Years ago we lived off hotdogs and cereal. ANYTHING is possible if you put your mind to. You are where you from decisions you made within your life, stand back, take look and start making new dicisions since the ones you are making right now are obviously NOT working. YOU CAN DO IT !!! If not for yourself then for your child !!

: ) Good Luck !

One tip is to get overdraft protection from your bank. Do you have prospects of increasing your income at your current job? If not, you make want to work toward a better job. I don't see much room for cutting expenses.

That puts you right around the mode average income for the US. There has to be some social program for someone in your situation.

Maybe check with your local Church or Temple or secular agency that helps people out.

Ok, I know where you are coming from. It's a tough situation. I live in PA and we have something called child care partnership. It gives parents childcare based on your income. You can make a good amount of money and still be eligible. You do not need to get rid of the things you have. They are all necessities. I made less than you do and was able to get by. I did not have "extra" money, but I was able to quit bouncing checks and paying late fees. There is also a website that helps you "face your finances". This helped me a lot. It teaches you things like how to get through the grocery store without buying impulses. You would be surprised how much money I spent on things that I did not need. Feel free to message me if you need any more info from someone who has been in your shoes.

Good luck

are you absolutley sure you can't get any help from anyone? even finding a mutual mother friend to watch your daughter instead of day care. try to find a roommate, or maybe a second job....or a cheaper place to live, apply for section 8, i think you should go to your family, if it is something serious, they won't turn you away, even if you think they will
