My advice would be to take on as little debt as you can. Build up a nice reserve of cash and get things as you can afford them. All my mates went mad when they bought their houses and flats and got into debt. I have been relatively debt free and it feels much better. You life and your money are your own then.

Well, if you have no furniture at all-- financing sounds good. But if you have stuff that will do-- I would hold off and pay cash later. There are going to be so many expenses you were not expecting along the way-- be somewhat frugile. good luck.. |

I'd wait until you can pay for it with cash. I've noticed when you finance furniture you end up paying twice as much. |

WAIT! Get used to that house payment for a few monthes and take time to figure out what you really want! You may decide to paint or change carpet or something. Besides, sometimes it can be romantic to have dinner on the floor! Having a whole lot of new bills at once is a terrible way to start a relationship! You want to be able to eenjoy each other without worrying about bills!
Congratulations on the new house and best wishes on your marriage! |

Don't get into debt to buy furniture. We did and it was a really big mistake. Try ebay - they have loads of furniture on there! One thing you can also do is to look in your yellow pages for local second hand stores or auction houses, often you can get cheap, good quality furniture there.
Edit: the site the person above is referring to is called 'freecycle' this is indeed a great site to find stuff on. |

Years ago, when I married, not many of us had hire purchase and we saved for everything we had. It was so much more appreciated when we had to wait for it. We weren't constantly worried about losing our jobs and not being able to meet payments either.
There is a site on the web where people give stuff away. I think it is called freestuff.com. Someone on the t.v. said that they had furnished their house from it and had a lot of fun. Why not give it a try and replace things as and when you can afford them? |

If you have furniture but just want nicer stuff, save until you have enough to buy it with cash. Financing things like household goods that only go down in value is rarely a good choice. We all want our new home to look pretty but until the last few years, no one expected newlyweds to buy a new home and have all new furniture without having saved for it. You don't want that debt hanging around your neck as you try to start your future together. |

Obviously it depends on how soon you want nice furniture.
It's always better to pay up front than to go into debt and you don't know what surprising initial expenses might spring up when buying a new house.
Perhaps buy the basic items for now, good quality if you can, like a bed, dining table & chairs and a sofa. Everything else can wait. |

Wait and pay cash. Don't load yourself down with so much debt that you can't enjoy your new home. It can be fun "camping" while you build up your furniture collection. Start with a bed, then a setee, table--or whatever your priorities may be. Hope you really enjoy the adventure! |

Wait and pay cash. Most finance schemes charge interest, which is a rip off! ... Unless you're getting 0% finance deals.... |

i would finance the furniture in both of our names just in case some thing comes up down the road.... |

Definately pay cash, when you take out finance you are really buying two products instead of one. It'll be worth the wait. |
