Jennifer | My husband and I have a joint savings bank account and him and I are having marriage problems, he makes threat |
that he is going to close our joint account together and open one up in his name only and put all the money it it, under his name only in a new account. Can this be done without my permission? Please help!! |

With a joint account it means either of you can take money out of it. So the answer is YES he can take all the money out and he is quite within his legal rights to do so. Equally so are you. He is also once he has the money able to open a new account in his name and deposit the money from the joint account. Equally so you you.
Best to decide what is the correct thing to do, perhaps take your half out now and open your own account in you own name, then he cant touch it. Only you can decide what is the right thing to do. |

Yes, he can close the joint account at any time he wishes. The good news is that you can also close the account at any time you want. |

yep, he can withdraw all cash, spent it all on an escort service that turns out to be his next girlfriend... If he is that type, tell him you want to talk and calm him down a bit. go to the bank tomorrow and do the same to him. If he star the process of more thread, start spending the money because you don't want him to get the lawyer and freeze your assets.
Of course the above would start a fight that might never ends. Marriage problem can be solve by talking among yourselves or together with a counselor. Your(both of you) choice. |

yes it can, withdraw half your money and open a seperate account, this way you have money left and he can't threaten anymore |

It all depends upon waht sort of facility you have put in place in your joint account. If he has got signatory authority he can withdraw money and do whatever he wants with it, but, if you both have to sigh and then only he can do transaction, then you dont need to worry. |

Yes it can be done! I suggest you take half out & put it in your own account or atleast the part that you put into it. |

Yes, it can be done. No law can stop that unless you are in the process of filing for divorce. To play it safe, why don't you take half the amount from the joint account and transfer it into your single account. Once you resolve your issues, you can go back to your joint account business. From now on, for every bill, you pay half while he pays the other half.
In retrospect, I feel couples should work on this from the moment they decide to get married. Because in most cases, divorces and misunderstandings are just inevitable. |

Yes it can and it has been done countless times in the past - google is your friend. If he withdraws all the money, which he can since its joint, then he has cash and can do whatever the hell he pleases. If its heading towards divorce you should be prepared, its hard to get a good lawyer without a retainer... |

no,it can not be done, because the bank knows another persons money is in the bank not only his because it is jointed. but he can make his own account and take the money out or transfer it and then make his own account. good luck hun, i suggest that if your hubby is treating you like that, you go ahead and make your own and have that joint account still but put away money in your account just in case something does happen, you'll have money to survive. good luck! happy easter! |

Nope, but if I were you I'd be a step ahead of him, you don't want to end up losing what is actually yours. |
