Instead of talking to people here I think you should talk to a divorce lawyer (i assume you are getting divorced).
£3m is a lot of money and if you were a stay at home wife than you deserve atleast half of it!
No matter what people here say you have to go and get what is yours!!

You are entitled to reasonable provision. If his offer is not reasonable you can appeal. |

I assume you are talking about his will? Is he dead yet? If he isn't there is still time to be nice to him and get him to change his mind. If he is then it depends. Are you both resident in Spain as the rules are different over here? He can cut you out of his will but he can't cut the children out in Spanish law. If it an English will there is a provision to make a claim if you feel you have a claim, speak to your solicitor about it. However if you aren't financially dependant on him then the chances of that claim being sucessful are slim.
That's a lot of money to have in cash though. He'd do better to invest it in property, especially over here, there's still some bargains to be had in the interior. I have a lovely 10,000 plot in Almundaina with a licence and project for a mear £60,000 if he wants it. 3 years time when the general plan is approved and the motorway is finished it'll be worth at least 3 times that. |

You can appeal to him. Is he likely to be leaving this Earth anytime soon?
And how did a policeman manage to save three million quid? He must be a very prudent saver. Unless he kept hold of the loot he found. |

Appeal to whom? After he has passed you mean? I think if you have a problem with it, you should speak to him now. It is not fair to appeal against his wishes after he has gone, its the act of coward in my eyes.
There are many factors; who has he left it to, how long have you been married, where you around when he was working to save the money...
He obviously feels that you are only entitled to half the house & half his pension, and that that is a fair amount of money to inherit. |

I recently saw a Panorama programme on divorse. The top legal expert in the UK, who is retained at £100,000+ by Celebs like Sir Paul McCartney, or rich bankers whose wifes have to 'maintain the same living standards' to protect thier assets from being split 50:50 gave his opinion.
There is no chance practically even with a prenupt, to avoid massive liabilites - only a damage limitation exercise can ensue.
So have no fears - your fella will pay, and you can pay back that debt on the sex change. |
