Depends on how much the name is misspelled. If it's the first name - it's really not that big of a deal. If it's the last name - then that's a problem. Best thing to do, if it's the first name, just deposit it in your account and everything should be ok. If it's the last name - send it back to get it reissued. |

Take it to a bank teller, with your I.D., and ask her/him if you can deposit the check as is. It's probably OK. |

the previous answer is correct. It is probably a good idea to go through the teller if they will not charge you for it. |

Don't alter the check yourself, that's called tampering. You may have to return the cheque to the person who issued it for a new one. Nowadays, banks are quite strict with flawed cheques. |

if you go to your bank and explain, they are usually kind of understanding about it,especially if you are a good customer. |

depends how badly it is misspelled I would go to my bank first and ask them if they will cash it before sending it back or altering it |

My wife's name is spelled in an unconventional manner. About 50% of the checks that she receives are spelled incorrectly. She has never had a problem depositing a check yet. |

Sign it the wrong way and then sign it again the right way. You'll have no problems. |

When you go to cash the check you will have to sign it like it is on the check and then sign it the right way below that. And show I.D. |

That happened to me about a month ago. I had a rebate check come in with my last name mispelled (by two letters). I didn't even notice until I was already at the ATM. I crossed my fingers and deposited it. It worked! :) |

Have your ID with you, sign the check as the name is written. |

Everyone is right. YOu just need to see if the bank will accept it. The issuer of the check has 3 years to have it sent back for improper endorsement for sending it through the bank. |
