you probably wont after 4 years, he will think you have forgotten about it, unless you have kept remeinding him. But if you really want it back and you are getting no joy from him as in when and how - go to the small claims court and they will deal with it for you. |

i don't know who said this phrase but its a good 1 to go by.. "don't lend money you cant give away" too many have fallen in the trap of lending money to friends and never getting it back, it also ruins alot of friendships too. Take him to a small claims court. |

Since he's never going to offer to repay then you'll just have to ask. If he's any sort of decent person he'll feel hugely embarrassed and guilty and cough up.
If he's not the decent sort then I expect you'll have to kiss the cash goodbye.....along with the "friendship".
Don't know about small claims courts since you live in Italy.
Know how you feel, why do I find it so awkward asking for my own money back?? |

I occasionally get asked to lend money. My answer is always that I only lend money through Zopa.
Zopa are a lending and borrowing exchange, that lets you lend money to individuals, and you choose your own interest rates. Zopa handle all the legal side of things, and the borrowers have to pay back, otherwise Zopa will pull the full force of the law down onto them.
If you lend to a friend and they don't pay back, you end up having to nag them, and it's the nagging that causes the loss of friendship. If you go through Zopa, Zopa do the nagging, so you don't lose your friendship.

You don't even have to lend to people you know.
