this time of year it could be xmas shopping money. Hand it in. |

So anyone with £800 is a dealer now? |

Kevin N

How does he know its drug money. it could be that someone has lost their deposit to their new rented flat. |

Landlord

This sounds pretty unethical to me. He needs to turn it over to the police and let them try and find the owner. He gets it if no one claims it.
That is a LOT of money. Some family may have been depending on that to live this month. Loosing that much money could cause many people to become homeless.
It is completely self centered and selfish, and has ZERO effect on "fighting drugs" for him to decide to keep this much money.
You should be alarmed at your sons lack of compassion and conscious. |

How on earth does he know that £800 in £10's is "drugs money", is the question I would ask him. |

taxed till i die,
No,Hand it in at your local police station.Stating where and when he found it. |

Marky
No.
He had no idea.
I am a business owner and often need cash to pay suppliers and will have several hundred pounds at any one time.
He has stolen the money and should hand it in to the police immediatley. |

Gone for good...
How is it obviously drug money?
THEFT BY FINDING! That is the certainty here. |

JOJO
it could of been someones christmas shopping money, shame on him. |

time for a change
No its not the right thing, how does he know that it is drugs money, somebody could have taken that money out of their bank to buy xmas pressies!!
Get him to do the right thing (not matter how tempting to keep it) and take it to the police station.
How would he feel if he lost that amount of money |

jlaura103
No that is a lot of money, should be given to the police.
If it was drug money then it probably wouldnt even be collected or reported but at least if it belonged to a nice old man he would get his money back. |

Random Hangman
I think your son made an assumption because it was a convenient way for him to justify what is ultimately theft. Should hand it in to the local police and then if it isn't claimed after 28 days he can keep the money guilt free.
If it IS drugs money, I doubt the owner will turn up for it. |

Luke Warnes
If the owner could be identified then he should have handed in the wallet to the Police.
OTOH If the rightful owner could not be identified then I too would have kept the money. |

Like everyone else said, how does he know? So no one ever walks around with that type of money in their wallet?
Could be an old mans wallet. I know a lot of the elderly don't like to use banks etc.
Someone about to go on a big Christmas shop?
I hate when I lose even £5, I'd hate to think how that person would feel knowing they have lost, or rather someone has stolen £800!!
Do the right thing and get him to hand it into the police station. |

stuck in a rut!
you should take a look at yourself aswell as your boy if you let him keep it, £800 is a lot of money to pretty much anyone in this world, make him give it in with where and when he found it, leave your contact details maybe the owner has reported it lost so may give your son a reward, or if its not claimed he may be able to get it back for himself at least then you have tried!! if you keep it without trying you both will be as bad as the 'drug money' owner! |

frugernity
I don't see how that could be "obvious".
If the wallet includes any ID, he should contact the owner.
If not, the wallet should be given to the police. |

matt h for da ben dan
he should definantly give it back |

claire
how does your son know it was drugs money there are many reasons why someone has that amount of money in their wallet he's not done anything wrong but he should take the lost property and the money to the police station if no one claims it then it will be rightfully his to do what the hell he likes with it |

Steve M
If he is so sure that it's drug money, he should turn it in to the police. THAT would be the right thing to do. |

penelope pitstop

He did what most people would probably do. Although if there was id in it he could've checked the person out before deciding what to do.
I'd give it back.....bad things happen to people who do bad things!!!! |

If you do not know the answer to this you must really struggle as a parent. He should immediately take the money to the Police station and let them find the rightful owners. Your son is really struggling to morally justify his greed. Surely as a mature person you can see this. |

Velvet
It could have been some single parents wallet, full of hard saved cash for xmas too.
How can he be sure it was a dealers wallet? |

Beautiful -
it might have been drugs money but it could have also be for a old disabled granny who just got her benefit money (the government paies out a lot to them).. they do give £10 notes if you ask.
and how is keeping the money his contribution to fighting the drug menaces? haha.. silly argument
his not helping anyone except himself!
but if it were me.. i would keep the money and put it into an ISA account and not make up silly reasons for keeping it
if there was no id in the wallet and he were to hand it into the cops then the owner might never go and collect it, meaning the police will just take for themselves.
keep it |

katlyn: Yahoo chat fugitive

He should let me help him fight the drug menace by sending half of it to me. |

KathyS
Keeping it is stealing. It should be turned into the police. |

nellie
How old is your son? Don't you think you should offer a little guidance here? Doesn't matter if it's £800 or £8, keeping it is dishonest. |

come on guys you know your doing the wrong thing by keeping the money otherwise you woudnt be here asking
you are feeling guilt already |

arch_angel21@sbcglobal.net

Not the right thing at all - he is keeping money that is not his. How on earth would he know what the money is from. It could be some little old ladys money she was saving. Turn the money in to the police with the wallet. Your the dad you should have just told him then. |

Feeling Mutual
No, that is not drug money.
It was lost while taking it to donate to a charity for orphans.
Please return it or donate it all to a charity for orphans. |

What an assumption! Is he a clairvoyant? Or are you both trying to justify doing something filthy and dishonest and keep your consciences clean? Any other ID in there??? Lots of people carry cash with them - we don't all want every transaction tracked by cards and the Almighty Supervisor. Has he spent it? And on what? Do the right thing, Mum. And teach your kid to do the same however strong the temptation. |

s_raju75
As a matured, you should not this question at all, you should rather be advising your kid about his wrong doing. You have no ownership of the money. No one gives you the right to decide on someones money. How can your son conclude that it's money from drug. If you cannot find the owner, just hand it over to the police or leave a poster on the street with minimal details on the same street where you kid found the money.
800 is a big amount and you better know how the guy who missed it would be feeling at the very moment. |
