GuitarMan13 | NEED HELP. Overdrafted in Bank by $10.00 and I was charged $150.00 in fees? |
I have direct deposit at work, for some strange reason, the check, which usually hits 6 AM on Friday morning, hit my account at 6AM Saturday morning. The previous day I put $10 on my debit card at the food store .Yesterday I was shocked to see that the bank had placed at $150.00 ,NON Sufficient funds fee on my account. I called the bank , and spoke to them, they told me that because I have only been with them for 6 months, and do not have an established history with thim, that the fees CANNOT be refunded. I AM SO ANGRY!!! |

In most places, fees like this are illegal. Switch banks. Trust me, if they bother taking you to court, I doubt it will fly. |

That is a pretty high fee. I was just wondering if part of that fee was from the store where you used the debit card. I know they can put on some overdraft charges too.
Look for a new bank and read their policy over carefully before you switch. Some bank require that you need a certain amount in the bank at all times or you get charged so watch out for that too. |

I would be very upset as well. I would talk to either the manager or go to the corporate office and explain your situation. That every week this hits. You were unaware of this being hit a day later and it was only a ten dollar purchase. Tell them you demand your money back or you will
1. Withdrawal your money and go to a bank that respects you.
2. Write an article and put it in your local newspaper
3. Report them to the Better Business Bureau
4. Word of mouth is also a bad way of business.
What bank is this? |

NEVER, NEVER assume that deposits are posted to your account! Always verify first. |

What a crappy bank. I would be looking for another bank to go with. Also, try going in there and reasoning with them in regards to the fees. I must say, that is pretty excesive for overdraft fees. |

I'm assuming that the $10 purchase set off a chain reaction that resulted in 5-6 items being returned NSF. Unfortunately, that's the way it works. There's no rhyme or reason to how banks pay charges and it always seems to work out in the worst possible way for the customer.
What I would suggest is that you get printouts of all the transactions that led to the charges and then go to the branch and actually talk to someone. Usually you can get better results talking to a person in the local branch than an automaton on the 800 number.
But you should be prepared for this response: "while you expected the money to be in your account Friday, you aren't supposed to spend the money until it actually shows up in your account".
The other thing you might do is go to your employer and see if there is anything they can do to help you - especially if you did not receive your pay by the stated pay date. You could also try calling the state employment department to find out if you have any legal recourse against your employer. |

Should have asked them why you didnt get a complimentary jar of vasoline when you opened your account. |

I agree with Ck and Kehla, I'd also like to add, that as someone else mentioned, you should defintitely talk to the branch manager ! If they can't waive the fees at least plead with them to LOWER them. That is completely ridiculous! Like everyone else said...you should get a new bank...that sucks! |

The direct deposit was either your employers fault or was it on good friday? That would explain it. Plus there is no specific time it goes in like a 6am type thing. Plus you didn't get a 150.00 dollar fee for one overdraft. You are being dishonest at the moment. You went negative and ran how many transactions? Fees are based on per transaction. So how many did you run when you were negative?. |

calm down.......read the terms and conditions of the bank again! |

That sounds wierd. It doesnt matter if you've been with them for a week...they cant charge you that much for one fee. Do you remember signing any paper that says since you havent been there very long they can do that? Thats the only way I can think of them being able to. If not you need to talk to the branch manager...thats not right! |
