I always worry about anybody who doesn't want to go through paypal. Why don't they want the protection?
But if you want to go through with the transfer.......
I doubt you would get the money until at least Tuesday. It will take 1 working day to authorise the bank transfer then you have to wait for it to clear into your account (1-4 days).
They need:
Name of accountant holder
Sort Code
Account Number
Your safe giving out this information (and you will need too many times in life).
This information would not be enough on its own for fraudsters. They would need copy of your signature, PIN numbers, account passwords, dates of birth etc to do any damage. |

They need to know what bank it is and your account number.
They do not need to know your ATM code or your personal information. (Address, social security number, mother's maiden name etc..) |

You ask the person who is giving you the money to pay you by cheque, then they dont need any details, or you ask them to pay it into a holding account at your bank who can then transfer it to your account, or you ask for a bankers draft. Make sure you are getting a large amount of money and its not a scam or a money laundering scam. Tell your parents and the bank who probably do know more about this than you. |

Make sure you know this person before giving out information. If possible, don't give your info directly to the person, but rather to the person's bank. They are going to need the name of your bank, the routing number, and your account number, so you really have to be careful. |

For people to send money to your account they need the sort code and account number. That is it. Any concerns speak to your bank. |

If you are getting this money from a Nigerian who needs help getting his money out of the country, he is in the process of stealing your identity and ruining your credit rating for LIFE.
Go to the bank and ask them if they can hold a transfer for you without depositing it. They'll be able to give you careful advice.
If you're worried about giving out your account number, there's probably a good reason for that, isn't there? Is this a "too good to be true" situation? |

Name, AccountNo, Sort Code.
Nothing else.
Keep an eye on your account, because with that information and your address (which your customer probably has anyway) a fraudster can set up a direct debit from your account with no further details.
Who says the banks are thieving b@stards and have abdicated all responsibility for security? Oh, that was me.
edit - I like direct transfers and internet banking they are cheaper than Paypal.
The above information is all on the face of a cheque anyway (along with a copy of your signature) and no-one squirms about handing that over. |
