you have to do a few things.
1. keep track of all your monthly expendatures and categorize them. I use excel for this.
2. try not to do things that involve instant gratification. Impulsive buying, eating out at a resturaunt... etc.
3. after the first month of keeping track of your expendatures try to spend less the next month in each category and the following month do the same, and so on.. its a game, just see how low of numbers you can get in each catecory for the month and use deposits in your savings as the number to beat with a higher score.
fun. :) |

Cut back on cable, don't use the AC so much this summer and use curtains to keep the house cool. |

I agree with kbrahmer only mind is the opposite. I put the change on my desk and my wife takes it and the end of each month she runs to the bank to cash in "her" change. Married 35 years |

Here is a life long habit, almost harmless, which can really make a difference:
Whenever you get a coin in change or by any other means, do not spend it! Rather, each night take out all the coins you have and place it in the largest container you can use. REMEMBER THAT'S EVERY COIN! I suggest a very large bottle...like a glass water bottle. NEVER take any change out until it is full and when full separate the contents into the denomination rolls. Then take that to the bank for deposit...and never take any of that out except for a life threatening or significant life changing matter. The money jar - is a daily reminder that you are doing something positive even if other things seem down; is a visible measure that you're better today than yesterday; and is so easy. Its a habit that will make you happy. You'll be surprised how much money you can save that way. |

Open another bank account. Have a portion of your paycheck directly deposited into that account. Do not get an ATM card or checks for that account. Just making the money inconvenient to touch will keep you from spending. If you do not have direct deposit, you can do the same thing, just take $20/50/100 per week/month and deposit it into that account.
Good luck!! |

Try not to buy things that you do not need and cut back on going out. Instead of buying drinks and snacks at convenience stores buy stuff at the grocery stores and pack lunch's. Cut coupons and use them. |

it depends how much you wanna save, are you a teenager ior an adult? if your young, then save a 1/4 of your pocket money by putting it in a jar each week, if your older, then a pay a smalla mount of your pay check into a seperate account each month, or right down everything you spend money on and you'll see wot yourwasting money on and be less hesitant to buy the same thing next time. |

Buy in bulk, go to big department stores like Wal-Mart, take advantage of bargains whenever possible, buy no-name brands. |

don't buy anything you don't need. Make a budget and stick to it. When you buy groceries, try to find sales or special buys. In general, just try not to spend as much on things that you don't absolutely need to buy. |
