17 and you've got rent and car payments? I suggest selling things on Craigslist, Kijiji or other free classifieds. People will buy almost anything. If you don't have anything to sell troll the postings and see what's popular and in demand. If you can get your hands on these items you can sell at a markup from retail price (I did this with things like the Wii, Rock Band game, etc). You may not be able to rely upon it as your only source of income (or could you? hmm...) but I do this for "toy" money. It can come in handy if you need some cash fairly quickly.
Btw, my buddy does those survey things once in a while and he says they work for him. Saw him cash a cheque while back for it. |

your car loan and insurance must be in someone else name. in US you can't get car loan until you're 18. and car insurance coverage must be added on by an adult if not your parents..so ask your parents or that adult to help out a little until you get square away......... |

It's almost spring, you could go knock on your neighbors doors and tell them you're looking for yard work. Also tell everyone you know, and tell them to tell people that you're looking for odd jobs... washing cars, running errands, cleaning out a garage, washing a dog (?), painting something, etc.
You didn't mention if you were in school or not. If you aren't, or on days off, weekends, or breaks try going to one of those Labor Ready or similar places that puts you out to work that day and you get paid each day. It's gonna be labor work though, you know, construction or maintenance stuff. I'm sure they've gotta have entry level or no experience needed positions.
The restaurant industry always has openings and will often be in such dire need that they'll hire you and put you to work that night. Try for busboy or server positions as you might get tips on top of hourly.
And one more thing... if you can't come up with the money for your bills talk to the creditor, don't just ignore them. They will usually work with you, allow you to make only a partial payment, etc., and won't report you to the credit reporting agencies right away.
AND... if you are out living on your own or are an imancipated minor you may be eligible for some assistance or a lower rate on some utilities, etc. based on your income. |
