Well, it wouldn't be a student loan, they are not designed to buy a car with. If money is not growing on trees for you, I would lean toward suggesting a part time job, with enough hours to make a monthly payment and pay for gas and insurance. You will struggle to get a loan without a co-signer for the typical price of even an older used car, as a student. The effect is the same, a loan would require a part time or even a full time job anyway to pay it back, so you might as well go ahead and do it, save a little for a downpayment, and find the least expensive car you can. If there is any way you can go without a car, do THAT. Cars are young people disasters, and I mean DISASTERS. They are expensive to buy and to own and can lead to real financial problems if you don't handle it all very responsibly. |
